Dream Resources Online: ASD Member Pages

It has been some time since I have provided in the Cyberphile a general update of resources online in dreams and dreaming. With so many dream sites now online, how could I talk about them in general without just making a big list of links? Consider how one might create a column about all the dream books that are available. How to do this without just making a big annotated bibliography?

I'm going to take a kind of potpourri approach, with an eye on articles that are actually available online, mostly from our members. Here is a summary index:
A. Basic resources - sites with dream article collections.
B. New ASD member sites and updates from older sites.
C. ASD Member Pages A - H, (with collections of articles).
D. Interactive communities and groups. Not exactly articles, but conversations.

I am leaving off the periods on many sentences that end with URLs to avoid confusion.

A. Basic Resources

Many of the major sites with substantial collections of online articles I have covered before in the Cyberphile and will only briefly mention them here for those new to dreaming online:

1. The ASD site www.asdreams.org is of course the main site online for dream research and has dozens of articles for all levels of dreamworkers and researchers. Here are some direct links to the articles: Dreaming and Paranormal Phenomena www.asdreams.org/telepathy/
Dream Time articles www.asdreams.org/magazine/articles/
Journal Dreaming articles: www.asdreams.org/journal/articles/index.htm
Dream Film Reviews : www.asdreams.org/videofil.htm
2. The free speech e-zine for dreams and dreamwork, Electric Dreams has hundreds of articles on dreams and dreaming available to the public. The main EDreams' portals include www.dreamgate.com/electric-dreams  and www.dreamtree.com  Also, the DreamGate library is a good plug in spot for dreamwork information and resources at www.dreamgate.com/dream/library
3. Dream Flights from Linda Magallon, with articles on flying dreams
lucid & out-of-body, telepathic dreaming, mutual & interactive dreaming, dream psi,
nightmares and other dreaming skills members.aol.com/caseyflyer/flying/dreams.html
4. For lucid dreaming, start with Stephen LaBerge's Lucidity Institute, which has dozens of articles from books and newsletters from the Institute. www.lucidity.com

B. New Member Sites and Updates

www.dreamwisdom.info  Dream Wisdom
With a major focus on the book Dream Wisdom, Alan Siegel, Ph.D. includes not only excerpts and useful articles on dreamwork, but also more advanced materials for clinicians interested in dreamwork. Articles range from the first steps of recall and recording to advance techniques such as the Jungian dreaming-the-dream-onward. Clinicians will appreciate "A Mini-Course for Clinicians and Trauma Workers on Posttraumatic Nightmares" and parents will find articles on how to handle children who have nightmares.

www.dreamgate.com/pomo  Postmodern Dreaming
I have also begun a new page online for my own postmodern dreaming articles and welcome any contributions. The collection also includes authors such as Paul Kugler, Ed Kellogg and Raymond L. M. Lee. Articles introduce to dream readers to Derrida, Deleuze, Guattari, Lyotard, Baudrillard and many other postmodern thinkers. The page is soon to expand to a wider area of philosophy and dreams.

www.patriciagarfield.com  Patricia Garfield, Ph.D.
Although some of Patricia Garfield, Ph.D.'s early books are hard to find, she has recently provided many informational and research articles from them for people interested in topics as diverse as the differences between men and women's dreams, dreams during grief, nightmares, pregnancy and childbirth dreams universal dream themes.

C. ASD Member Pages A - H

The ASD Member Pages were started a few years ago by Jean Campbell to create more community through the opening up of space on the ASD site for personal information related to dreams and dreaming of ASD members. The current host, Liz Diaz, keeps these pages working and helps members not as familiar with this type of media to create their own pages. Recently, Harry Bosma (known to many ASD members as the creator of Alchera journal software at www.mythwell.com ) has added a set of features to allow members to create and update their member pages automatically and directly. We still reviews all requested changes. All these pages can be constructed, updated, and viewed from www.asdreams.org/members

www.kellybulkeley.com
Kelly Bulkeley, Ph.D. has a wide range of scholarly article on dreams and dreaming available online. Some will be familiar to ASD readers, such as "Transforming Dreams: Learning Spiritual Lessons from the Dreams You Never Forget" from Dream Time magazine 17(1), while other are not readily available to most readers, such as "Reflections on the Dream Traditions of Islam" from a 2002 issue of Sleep and Hypnosis or the 1994 "Dream-Sharing Groups, Spirituality, and Community" from a presentation made to the Person, Culture and Religion Group at the Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Religion. There are also dream book and dream film reviews. For those interested in developing courses on dreams, there are class syllabi and proposals for courses on dream and spirituality topics.

www.obeliskfoundation.com
Edward Bruce Bynum, Ph.D., includes dream articles on "The African Psychological Lineage on Dream States, Family Dynamics, The Unconscious and Beyond" and "Psi, the Shared Dreamscape and the Family Unconscious."

www.ceoniric.cl/html/Eng000.htm www.ceoniric.cl/
Rosa Andwandter hosts a collection of dream articles in both English and Spanish. The topics range from dream science articles, such as Hartmann's "Dreams and Nightmares" and "On the Nature and Function of Dreams," to spiritual and shamanistic dreamwork such as the "Buddhist Doctrine and Dream Yoga" by the Dalai Lama and Krippner's "Shamans as Mythmakers and Psychopomps." There are also clinical and psycho-spiritual perspectives such as how to work with sabotage dreams by Tjitske Wijngaard, "Healing with Dreams" by Jean Campbell and "Color in Dreams" by Bob Hoss.

www.dreamresearch.net www.dreambank.net
I have reported in depth on this content analysis sites from G. W. Domhoff in Dream Time 13(2), and highly recommend all students of quantitative dream analysis to visit this site. I won't go into all the resources available to learn and use this analysis, but do want to mention the twenty plus articles. These papers include not only seminal papers by Calvin S. Hall and his students on the content and themes in dreams, but also more current views in content analysis by G. W. Domhoff, Walter J. Reis and others.

www.spinner-soft.com
The DreamSpinner web from Bjo Ashwill MS, LPC, is another site focusing on dream content, and the use of a software program Bjo has been developing for many years to explore long years of dreams. Articles of note include her presentation from the 1997 ASD conference "Written Dream Narrative, and Conceptualizing a Categorization System for a Computer" and exploring dream patterns in unimportant dream words, "Throwing The Baby Out With The Bathwater." There is also a dream-database for researchers looking for dreams in different topic areas, and articles on dreamwork.

www.healingdreams.com
Marc Ian Barasch offers excerpts from all 12 chapters of Healing Dreams. He begins with what healing dreams are about, then spends many chapters on stories and theory, and finally brings the whole thing together.

dreamnetwork.net/readart.html
Roberta Ossana's Dream Network has over 20 articles on her site, geared towards dreamwork. Articles range from visionary to techniques. There is the original manifesto by William R. Stimson "Dreams As A Subversive Activity" and the more recent "When we become a dreaming culture" by Robert Moss. Dreamwork articles range from Dick Mcleester's 15 dreamwork tips to Graywolf Swinney's "Healing in the Heart of Your Dream."

www.visionaryliving.com
Rosemary Ellen Guiley is one of ASD's most prolific writers and one can expect this generosity when visiting her site. Rosemary offers articles on how to approach dreams from a psycho-spiritual perspective, and includes such interesting articles as " Messages from Dream Animals", "Dreaming a New World into Being" and "9-11 Dreams and Global Mind." There are also excerpts from her many books.

www.dreamtree.com
Peggy Coats' award winning Dream Tree site has a wide variety of resources and a series of short articles on many topics in dreaming including dreams in film, literature, music, culture, famous dreamers, starting dream groups and more. Peggy also has her presentation online from the ASD conference and her review of dream journal software from Dream Time 16(1).

**** Was you site missing from this collection? Maybe you need to update your Member Page so that ASD knows what resources and services you are offering. How? Easy, just pick your member page from the list and select the EDIT option at the lower right bottom of the page, make the changes and submit the new information. If you have never submitted a Member Page, no problem, its easy too. Just select the ADD MY PAGE link from the ASD member page site. www.asdreams.org/members

D. Interactive communities and groups

While the World Wide Web is useful in providing content for dreamworkers and researchers, the more direct discussions have been gaining popularity as people begin to understand the benefits of asynchronous communications, which just means delayed communications which allow you a chance to read and reflect on people's questions and comments before replying. This might be the usual one to one e-mail, a bulletin board or the e-mail discussion groups.

What I find most interesting and descriptive of these groups is that they ebb and flow depending on the needs of the dream community. That is, they are what Felix Guattari calls subject groups, which get together, do what they need to do, then move on. For example, sometimes there is a lot of activity on a group like the ASD Lucid Dreaming group. Discussions may last for weeks on specific topics in lucid dreaming. Someone may then come out with a new book on dreams and spirituality and the group discussions will migrate. Later, a personal or global event may shift the mood of the group and there will be a migration of the discussions to the dreams and activism group. Since ASD members can be subscribe to all or many groups at one time, there is a kind of friendly cloud of friends and associates that participate and drift from one group to another.

I have previously discussed some of the more active dream sharing groups online. If you are new to online dream sharing, I recommend three groups to start:
1. The Electric Dreams DreamWheel, using a variation of the "If this were my dream" technique. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/dreamwheel/
2. For less structured dreamwork, DreamChatters is quite popular
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/dreamchatters/
3. For a community of dreamworkers, more in depth discussions, try DreamShare at
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/dreamshare/

The hottest new group online is a socially responsible dream group called the World Dreams Peace Bridge. The Bridge is very active and responsive, and if you join them expect 400-800 message exchanges a month. However, the group does more than talk. Projects expand out from the group leveled at large, sometimes global, actions and projects deeply rooted in dream sharing.
www.worlddreamspeacebridge.org

As mentioned above, at ASD, the E-Study groups are a great way to discuss topics and meet new and old ASD members. Rita Dwyer's Dream Activism group has been very active and discusses and practices the use of dreams for world peace and prosperity. Also the Dream Psi group has been very active, discussing topics including dream psi, precognition, telepathy and beyond. ASD members can easily join these groups and many others at:
