Get your oneiric magnifying glasses and start your search for "Consistent Clues" Jean Campbell continues to be a key player in 21st Century dream activism and this month has an update from the most active online project, the World Dreams Peace Bridge. In "A View from the Bridge" Jean describes current projects and how you can participate. There is also information about the website worlddreamspeacebridge.org Nick Cumbo is back with some changes in the Dream of Peace Network. The network explores the role of dreams in bringing about a more peaceful and harmonious lifestyle to this planet, and is dedicated to bringing the potential of dreaming into the culture of our communities. As a result of these changes, They now have a new forum for dream interpretation and general dreams discussion called the 'Fishbowl', and the renaming of the 'Earth Dreamers' forum to the intriguing title, 'Sea Life.' Their discussions and mutual dreaming experiments are leading them to big events in 2012. Read all about it in "Dreampeace: The Earth Needs Dreamers" and "Research: Dreaming Our Way to 2012." Ed Bonapartian is sharing an article with us that he previously had printed in a local magazine called _Spiral_. in "Saying our Goodbye's" Ed shows how dreams helped him and his community deal with the loss of a close family member. It is a very touching story about dreams, life, synchronicity and every surging spirit of relationships. Katie Lucid Fire Warning January 2 2003 I dreamt I was at my parent's house in New York, sleeping on the basement floor. My mother came down and was puttering around talking to me. I was annoyed that she was disturbing me when I didn't have to get up yet. I thought it seemed odd to me that if she was up and around I didn't have to be yet. She's wearing white slacks and that tan and white striped cotton shirt she used to have. I think I get up for a minute then go back to "bed". She asks me questions like, "Why haven't you washed that?" referring to the muddy throw rug I'm sleeping on and, "Is that my green sheet?" I say crossly, "Stop asking me rhetorical questions when I'm trying to sleep!" Looking at the motley assortment of bathmats and throw rugs and scraps that I'm using as a bed, she says sadly, "I wanted so much more for you." I want to tell her it's perfectly comfortable. She goes about her work and I settle down to sleep. Then I realize I already *am* asleep and that this is a lucid dream. For a moment I think, I'm lucid, what should I do? Should I do something sexual?" but what I really want to do is continue this dream. I say to my mother, "Mom, I'm dreaming." She understands what I mean and says thoughtfully, "You know, I had a dream last night about you. I dreamt that Jacoby Hall caught fire and the library burned down." (I consider telling her that these are two separate buildings but don't want to interrupt.) She says she went back to the office for some paperwork she had to do -referring here to her school campus, not mine. I say, "Would you do something?" "Tell another person my dream?" she asks. I'm surprised she's thought of this. "That too, but write it down. I've never had a dream come true like that... well, sort of..." I trail off, thinking that I've had a lot of precognitive details come true. She considers, "Who knows? With a holy dream like that." I'm startled by her use of the word "holy", I didn't realize that she considered the dream to be of divine origin. She says, "I want you to do something for me. Unhook your dryer at 3 o'clock on Wednesday." "3 o'clock on Wednesday?" "3 o'clock on Wednesday." "My time or yours?" "Yours." "By unhook the dryer you mean unplug?" "Well, you know." She makes vague gestures with her hands. She says something about "Your father and your brother may also be at risk," which I take to mean the dream may be about them and not me. Even as I'm having this dream I'm surprised at how clear it is, the stability of the lucidity, and the absolute clarity of my awareness and thinking. Not all the details are right - early in the dream my mother behaves differently than my real mother would (nor would I be sleeping on the basement floor for that matter). At the end of the dream I see the phone and the wall plate is a different color than the phone, which doesn't strike me as incongruous. But the quality of my thinking is as clear as waking. Karl B. January 8 2003 I go down the hall to Roger's office and work at a cubicle. Roger falls asleep. I get up to leave, and I suddenly realize I'm dreaming. I go to the wall. I realize that since this is a dream, there might be a secret door in the wall. The wall swings open, and I go into a passageway filled with bright light. But I wind up back in the office. I guess I'm supposed to be here. Now my body begins to faint, although I'm still conscious and lucid. My body falls backward, but very slowly and gently. I lie on the floor, unable to move, and I gradually lose lucidity. Rich Stammler January 26 2003 Sandi and I are trying to get somewhere when we come upon a pond, or a stream that had a pond in it. I am aware there are fish in the stream and pond. (Water in my dreams always represents the unconscious or inner reality; fish represent inner ideas and goals. I have had past dreams where I pick up Japanese brown carp as large as puppy dogs and hold them over my arm while stroking them. I have also offered to share the fish with other members of the family and some have refused to hold them.) I see the water level is at our eye level but is totally transparent. There are fish in the stream and, at one point in the dream, we see fish, not swimming but moving along at about eye level. The fish have large bodies like ornamental goldfish and tail fins that equal or double the length of the body. The fish are at eye level and are iridescent. The tail fins are totally translucent with small color patches that are translucent but at the same time very bright colors. The fish are colorful, transparent, and stunningly beautiful, magical. Then Sandi and I are carrying some boxes with files, trying to go somewhere. We end up in this field and I am aware of people on the periphery who are hunting or something like that. I get the feeling they are what is pejoratively called rednecks or hillbillies. I didn't want them to see us, but they come directly toward us. They are upset we are there as if we are trespassing. I then look down while one of them is yelling irately and I see a female with her feet not touching the ground, levitating. (I became lucid at that point but it is not what I think of as full lucidity. I'm beginning to realize that there are many shades of lucidity.) I tell Sandi "It's OK. We don't have to worry about them, they are dream characters." They then disappear. We continue to where we have to go. I talk about the best way to launch, to fly astraly, to make the trip faster, and Don, a colleague from work appears. [Don is a very conservative, traditional southern gentleman.] There was weather here for the first time and dirt and kind of a cliff on the other side. I tell Don that what I need to do is jump off the cliff and then we will fly. ******************************** The Lucid Dream Exchange is a quarterly newsletter featuring lucid dreams and lucid dream related articles, poetry, interviews, and book reviews. (c)2003 Linda Lane Magallón (Excerpted from "How To Fly") o|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|o We've seen that a dream can look like its counterpart event in the waking world, but it doesn't have to. And it's not likely to. Although the obvious visual reproductions are easy to spot, there aren't very many of them. What about all the variations and transformations? Are they just jumbled data, a bit of this with a peck of that, forming a new recipe that has no relationship whatsoever to the fruits of the waking state? Do we merely classify dreams as "delirious" when they contain elements seemingly inconsistent with physical reality? Well, believe it or not, even the wildest sleep-time fantasy might be a response to waking life. Good thing, too. We can use the information gleaned from wake-inspired nocturnal productions to help incubate flying dreams. Despite obvious differences, certain corresponding elements tend to stay the same. I call them "Consistent Clues." New Tools For The Treasure Hunt The "Clues" actually have a fairly long history. Although there were attempts to compare dreams and material reality as far back at the Classical Greek period, researchers weren't very methodical until the late 1800's. The researchers began the comparison process with an already-produced dream, that is, a report of a dream after it had happened. Then they attempted to link the dream elsewhen, such as a portent of things to come, or backward, to the distant or recent past. This approach is, at best, a game of speculation. Sometimes the speculation can be pretty wild! Which of the kabillion little events or aspects of your physical life might the dream talking about? And don't forget all the events that "happen" to you while you are watching TV or day-dreaming about Tolkien's Middle Earth. Sometimes dream theorists throw up their hands and declare that dreams have *nothing* to do with waking life. Or if they do, it's a crap shoot. I'd rather the theorists put their hands down and start counting the Clues. To discover clues, it's far more fruitful for a researcher to begin with a waking event, then link it FORWARD, to dreams that may follow. It's quickly apparent that not every waking event has a dream reflection. Some dreams will ignore an event entirely. Dreams do not react to every moment in our lives. They respond to only some of them. Finding links in this new direction can still be a guessing game, unless you add one more element. INTENTION. When you intend to dream about something in particular, your chances of doing so increase rather dramatically. To deliberately dream of flying will produce more flying dreams than if you wait around for them to appear. Researchers used subjects that intended to dream for them in order to track the visual components of dreams. Along the way, they discovered a couple of new tools. These have worked well for over a century. -- The picture target. An image on paper, that stays still long enough for several folks to view and analyze it, is a lot more practical than an event that's here and gone. To use a picture target, you might stare at it just before you go to sleep, wondering if any of the target elements will be incorporated into your dreams of that night. If you are experimenting with the psychic aspects of dreams, you could get someone else to "send" the target to you telepathically. In either case, you have something lasting and concrete with which to compare your dream report. -- Multiple dreamer attempts. A single dream is like a dot on a piece of paper. Even if you were able to reproduce the picture in your dream, you really couldn't see the full "picture" of how dreams work unless you added more dots, then stood back to find if they created a pattern. Consider when a video scene begins with the camera lens so close to an object that you can't see its edges. You probably have no idea what the object is until the camera pulls back and you finally get to see the entire object plus everything surrounding it. Dreams are like that. One dream doesn't show what many dreams will, when viewed together. Researchers could have collected several dreams from a single dreamer. But they found it was more revealing to use several dreamers and their many dreams gathered from a single experiment. So take one picture target and several dreamers dreaming several dreams to that one target and what do you get? Subliminal Research and Free Association The first to have some success in specifying the Consistent Clues weren't the researchers inducing regular, lucid or psi dreams. Actually, it was the subliminal researchers. In 1917 the Viennese neurologist Otto Pštzl presented the results of a study that used a tachistoscope. This device presents pictures on a screen at 1/100th of a second. At that rate most of the scene can't be recognized by the conscious mind. Pštzl was able to demonstrate that the unseen parts of the briefly flashed picture can nonetheless be smuggled into dreams. Drawings of the dreams made by dreamers during the night or early the next morning may show traces of this subliminal imagery. The "Pštzl Phenomenon" highlights a very important finding. It's not only the pictures right in front of you that can form your dream. It's not only the objects you remember that can form your dream. Dreams also respond to what's on the periphery of your vision, to what you're not paying direct attention and to what's underneath your usual level of perception. So I have a question for you to ponder. How can you use your waking mind to "free associate" to an element of your dream that was procured by your subconscious mind? I don't mean that it became subconscious because your conscious mind recognized it, got embarrassed or guilty, and then repressed the recognition. Freud's theory held that many dreams were the result of childhood traumas and fantasies. That is, memories of childhood traumas and fantasies still operative and being acted out in maladaptive behavior. If memories of past connections (trauma plus guilt, for example) were unaltered by the passage of time, as Freud believed, they could be retrieved by the conscious mind because the conscious mind was aware of them at one time, even if for an instant prior to the repression. But what if an event is subconscious because your conscious mind never made that connection in the first place? Never recognized it, never named it? It might be a body-memory, instead. A motor-sensory memory can be made manifest by the movement of your hand drawn across a sheet of paper. As far as your conscious mind goes, it's truly "un" conscious. It's clear that Freudian repression is not the same as subliminal perception. One depends on a psychological reaction to a previously conscious memory and is retrieved by written or verbal language. The other is physiological; it's in the nature of how human perceptual apparatus works at its subconscious periphery and its retrieval is not necessarily dependent on an oral recitation. To understand subliminal information, we need to look elsewhere to understand the associations that our minds make as they build the structure of the dream. The "Pštzl Phenomenon" was further studied by researchers Wolfgang Leuschner and Stephan Hau. In 1992, they used a collage of triangular objects as their target picture. In keeping with Pštzl's assumptions, Leuschner and Hau discovered that the target material was apparently dissociated by the mind into fragments. REM dreams appeared to depict the fragments rather than the structure of the picture as a whole. So nobody dreamt the full picture, but sometimes they dreamt parts of it. This is a good reason to gather several dreams. More that one piece may be required to complete the puzzle. Consistent Clues Leuschner and Hau's subliminal research identified four target features. -- LABEL Certain individual details of the target were mentioned in dreamers' reports by their commonly recognized names. If there was a mountain, sailboat or beach in the picture, one could find the word "mountain," "sailboat" or "beach" in the oral report. To the literal researcher, these parts were "labeled" correctly. -- CLANG Some of the elements in the picture converted to metaphor. The use of analogy is no surprise to folks who have invested time doing dream interpretation. But these metaphors were of a specific type. They were puns. For instance, a pictorial element, such as a "sail" might transpose to the written word "sale." Such elements "clang," or sound the same. -- COLOR Even if the dreamer switched to other images or used different labels, the colors tended to stay the same as those in the picture. Instead of a yellow and green sailboat, the dreamer might dream up a green and yellow car. -- FORM Objects retained their triangularity. Again, the dreamer might switch to other images, with different labels. But the new images would have three sides, too. Rather than several people with triangular hats, the dreamer might dream up one person with a pair of triangular eyeglasses. The discovery of form was greatly aided by the fact that the dreamers didn't just speak their dreams as they were recorded by video tape. This type of research required that they draw sketches of what they had "seen" in their dreams. Other researchers, who used 3-dimensional rather than 2-dimensional targets, would discover another Consistent Clue that has great relevance for the flying dreamer. -- MOTION The way another character or object moves in the dream or the way your dreaming self moves in the dream can be the same sort of movement as found in waking life. Obviously, your physical body doesn't fly like Superman in physical reality. But elements of your motion, like speed, direction or height above the ground can be clues to your visual whereabouts in that waking moment which helped inspire your sleeping dream. Melonie's Dream Visit The first time I became aware of Consistent Clues wasn't by way of a picture or a lab experiment. My own waking life was the target. But it did take the cooperation of another dreamer to discover Clues. At the time of this dream, I was co-dreaming with her. I had never met Melonie in physical reality; we communicated with each other by postal mail and phone. One night, Melonie decided to come visit me in a dream. Melonie's dream began: "I am in Linda's house. I recognize it from the photograph she sent me. Three rooms. First to my right a small glassed-in room containing a piano. This room is all glass and wood." To assist our co-dreaming, I had sent Melonie a photograph of myself, but not of my house. The bottom floor has three rooms. The family room contains a piano. On its opposite side is a wall with two double sliding glass doors and a large window. At the time of the dream, a wooden bookcase was planned to cover most of its far wall. The blueprints for the bookcase were on the back of our kitchen door and very much on my mind. Melonie's dream continued: "Then a larger room. Walls are greyish blue. I sit on a couch and wonder how I can find Linda's telephone number. It is afternoon and she is at work. Her husband and another man come in. Her husband is a psychologist." The largest room is the living room but its walls are painted white. It's the couch which is greyish blue. And it's the couch upon which I was sitting when my husband came home from work one afternoon and handed me the mail. Seated next to me was a man who is a hypnotherapist and the two of us happened to be talking about dreams. For even more synchronicity, the mail included a letter from Melonie. And in it was this very dream. The literal LABELS include glass, wood, piano and couch. It's not an uncommon cue for a dream to use "telephone" as an indicator of connection; it SOUNDS very like "telepathy." The COLOR is the greyish blue. FORM is inferred in numbers: the 3 rooms and the 2 men. The MOTION is the man coming into the room. Label, clang, color, form and motion were ingredients in Melonie's dream. The pieces were right. But they weren't assembled as in physical reality. In particular, some items were switched. The color of the couch showed up on the wall. An occupation was attributed to another man. The photograph was of the house instead of me. I was sitting on the couch rather than Melonie. Some researchers call this a "reassociation weakness." But that's only if they are seeking in dreams an exact Xerox of the material world. To their credit, Leuschner and Hau took a more liberal view of the phenomena. They called the opportunity for mixing and matching "a precondition for new, witty and creative inventions of the kind seldom brought about by waking thought." Creativity is a hallmark of dreams. A New View of Dreams As far back as the early 20th century, the subliminal researchers had claimed that the dream features seemed to be "processed separately" by the brain rather than together, as a whole. And they only had the outer fruits of the dream to analyze: the dream reports. Finally, at the end of the century, neurological researchers were able to use technology to study the inner-workings of the body and brain. And guess what they found? It used to be thought that memories were stored like pages in a book, or books in a library shelf, located in a particular place in the brain. So the neurologists went looking for those locations. They found that the human brain no more contains memory spots than there are picture postcards stored in the memory board slots inside your computer case. Even when visual material first registers on the eye, it is recognized by two types of elements: rods and cones, and they fire in various combinations, depending on what is seen. But human encoding is even more complex than digital computer language. It is beginning to look like any one part of the brain is networked with other portions of the brain and body in a sort of Internet of connectivity. Parts can be "talking" to one another at more-or-less the same time. And it seems there are particular servers handling specific sorts of traffic. Eyes dissect an image cast upon your retina into about 126 million pieces, then send signals for every one of these tiny elements to the thalamus. The thalamus in turn fires neuronal networks to and within the visual cortex before information ends up in the frontal cortex, where the pieces are put back together. The multi-million bits of information don't all travel the same route, however. All the processing takes place along a few independent, parallel pathways. One system processes information about SHAPE, one about COLOR and one about MOVEMENT, location and spatial organization. Sound familiar? Separated information isn't just a characteristic of dreams, then. It is in the very nature of the body-brain perceptual system itself. And it's not just subliminal dreams that manifest these characteristics. Parallel pathways of research have reported evidence of Consistent Clues, too. The Clues have been found in labs that study regular dreams and dream psi. They've been found out in the field of lucid dreams. And in a closely related field of waking endeavor: remote viewing. Surfing Your Dream Reports So what does this mean when you go surfing your dream reports to discover evidence of dream-waking correlation? You already know some of the skills to develop beforehand: recall, recording, journaling. Take care to LABEL your dream elements as accurately as you can. Although you may not have a full copycat dream, a few of the elements might be named as they are in waking life. Then do an about-face. Ignore the blatant imagery. Yes, that's right. Ignore the labels you have given to whatever you "saw" in your dream. At this stage in the process, don't you dare go running for a symbol dictionary! Time enough for that later. Much later. Symbol interpretation is about step 18 in a list of 20. There's a whole lot of prep work to do first. If you haven't done so already, try to get in the habit of making sketches of the objects in your dreams. No, not involved drawings. Quick doodles actually work better to define FORM. Write down the COLOR you see, even if you only mention black and white. Describing MOTION may be a little more complicated. For now, just be aware of moving about in your dream, even if you aren't in flight. References Bergson, Henri (1914). Dreams. London: T. Fisher Unwin. Bootzin, Richard R. and John F. May Tung, herself a refugee from China when she was a little girl, was the first to mention the idea of helping the children of Iraq. She suggested sending not food or water, but therapeutic aids like stuffed toys, crayons and paper, which could be used to help the children deal with trauma. It was when we scheduled the first Dream Incubation for Children in early April that the idea really took hold, when it was discovered that several people had been dreaming not just for but with the children of Iraq. And then people began to talk about how, during childhood illness or other difficulty, some stuffed toy or doll had been a cherished friend or listener to secrets told to no one else. At the request of the group, Ilkin Sungu, who lives in Istanbul, went to the offices there of UNICEF, where she was told that there were already therapists in place and goods being shipped from Turkey to refugee camps in Iraq. The director of UNICEF's Istanbul office offered a deep discount on the types of stuffed toys, crayons, paper and pencils we were looking for as well as enthusiastic support for the proposed program. Ilkin was assured that she could personally oversee the shipments, and that even cards and pictures from dreamers around the world could be sent to the children. Thus the Aid for Children Project was born. If you would like to contribute to this project, just send a check to: Aid for Children The iMAGE Project 408 Elmhurst Lane Portsmouth VA 23701 USA or check the World Dreams Peace Bridge http://www.worlddreamspeacebridge.org/index.htm for updates. (Note: The iMAGE Project is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization managed by World Dreams moderator Jean Campbell. All funds designated for the Aid for Children Project will go directly to the children. All donations are tax deductible.) Along the way to this dream-created communication with the children of Iraq, another interesting thing developed. First came an e-mail to the Peace Bridge from Jeremy Seligson's nine-year-old daughter Elloisa (Ellie) in Korea, and then another from Victoria Quinton's Australian daughter, Emily, just turned nine. Soon Julian joined in from the United States, and before we knew it, there were Kids on the Bridge. The Kids on the Bridge program is still developing. There are plans for a discussion board on the World Dreams web site, and for dream-related and peace-related activities for the kids. But most definitely this is a first in the community of dreamers, a place where kids can have their own space for discussion and development of projects. If your own kids are interested in dreams and peace, and might like a place to explore these with other kids from around the world, send an email to jeansdream2002@yahoo.com, or watch this space for updates. The World Dreams Peace Bridge continues to grow. Several new members have joined the Peace Bridge discussion group in the past month, and there have been enough Peace Train activities starting around the world that a special Peace Train discussion list has been created at Yahoogroups specifically for Peace Train conductors. If you would like to create a Peace Train, you can join the list by sending an e-mail to : peacetrainproject-subscribe@yahoogroups.com. And don't forget that Jeremy Seligson, the original Peace Train dreamer, will be conducting a Dreams and Peace Trains workshop at the upcoming ASD Conference in Berkeley at the end of June. Jeremy will be assisted by May Tung and me. Other members of the World Dreams Peace Bridge will also be in attendance. The final activity of the month of April that must be mentioned is the creation of a new word to describe what we do on The World Dreams Peace Bridge. You can do it too. It's called Da-Fu Mu Dreaming or Dreams of Big FU, meaning dreams of great blessing. The word, a combination of Japanese and Chinese, came about when Kathy Turner asked, "What do we call this kind of focused, long-term, peace dreaming we've been doing?" And a word-playful discussion ensued. Check out the Da-Fu Mu Dreaming page at Dafumu - World Dreams Peace Bridge http://www.worlddreamspeacebridge.org/dafumu.htm And when you dream of peace, say Dafumu! ------------------- The World Dreams Peace Bridge is a group that uses personal dreams for public world peace. Link: http://www.dreamofpeace.net/ Our web forum 'Sea Life', aims to bring together a large circle of dreamers from around the world, collaborating in adventures in the world of dreams, and 'dreaming with and for the earth itself'. There is a focus on small groups of dreamers (usually about 8 members), called Dream Teams, sharing dreams on a regular basis, and getting to know each other on a more personal basis. Within a group, we run creative dream incubation projects, journeys to places such as the Redwood Forests and Antarctica, attempt mutual dreaming experiments, and much more. It was decided this month to begin running research projects to demonstrate the power of dreaming in various fields. These research projects, are also the result of a wish to improve collaboration between members of different dream teams, and open the forums to individual dreamers. ****************************************************************** THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE YEAR 2012 ****************************************************************** In March, our research project focused on the topic of 'Dreaming Our Way to 2012'. As a result of this research, the site was led through important changes. Most significantly, the changing of our name from 'Earth Dreamers' to 'Sea Life', and the addition of a pre-existing forum offering a wider variety of general discussion on dreams called the 'Fishbowl'. Firstly, I would like to call on some external evidence to demonstrate rather quickly the significance of the year 2012. As some readers may know, the ancient Maya of Central America were an advanced civilisation. A central part of their knowledge, was their sophisticated astronomy, and their understanding of time itself. John Major Jenkins is a key figure in our modern knowledge of this system. In his online article 'The Solstice Sun and the Galactic Center' he writes "Mayan cosmology is a complex science primarily concerned with understanding the nature of time. It utilizes calendar systems invented by the Maya to calculate important eras during which divine energies, or gods, would manifest on earth. Mayan calendar systems are intimately involved with, and based upon, the movements of celestial bodies including the sun, moon, and planets. Mayan calendars also track more subtle astronomical phenomena such as eclipses and, most significantly, the slow shifting of the heavens known to modern astronomy as the precession of the equinoxes. The precession of the equinoxes (which also could be called the precession of the solstices) was believed to be responsible for a succession of World Ages, a doctrine central to Mayan Creation mythology". Link: http://www.timeofglobalshift.com/ "The next large turning point in the Mayan Long Count calendar, a date which marks the end of a period of over 5,125 years in Mayan chronology, occurs on December 21, 2012. The ancient Maya believed that the years around 2012 would be attended by great changes and, in accordance with their World Age Creation mythology, the transformation of human beings into something completely new. " What makes this belief, all the more interesting is that the end date was actually fixed on "an astrological alignment, an alignment so compelling and rare that the ancient Mayan astronomers believed it to signal the commencement of the next World Age" "The solstice sun will be in alignment with the Galactic Plane in the years between 1980 and 2016. In more precise terms, both the U.S. Naval Observatory and astronomer Jean Meeus (in his book Mathematical Astronomy Morsels, 1997) calculated that the solstice meridian will align with the Galactic equator in 1988. We can call this zone a solstice-galaxy alignment, or simply, galactic alignment. This alignment occurs roughly once every 12,800 years (one-half of a precession cycle)." "The Maya believed the era-2012 alignment to be the most significant evolutionary event that human beings experience. For example, the image of the sun moving into alignment with the Milky Way is played out in the Maya ballgame. It is equivalent to the movement of the game-ball, symbol of the sun, into union with the Milky Way, the cosmic "goal." Likewise, the Mayan Creation story of One Hunahpu's resurrection in the cosmic game court also symbolizes the 2012 alignment". ------------------------------------------------------------------ For those interested, a modern calendar utilising the Mayan knowledge of time, can be found at the official website of The World Thirteen Moon Calendar Change Peace Movement: Link: http://www.tortuga.com/ "This popular movement to change the calendar is also a peace movement, and is based on the discovery of the Law of Time, a discovery that demonstrates that time is a frequency, the universal frequency of synchronisation. It is this law that maintains the universe in harmony and guarantees beauty wherever you look in nature. When we are genuinely synchronised in time we can easily promote values such as harmony, cooperation, and spiritual unity. When there is harmony there is art and elegance." ************************** YOUR DREAM JOURNEYS TO 2012 ************************** Having explained a little about the Mayan system of time, many are probably wondering what this has to do with dreams. Our research into 2012, not only gathered information from sources across the internet, but also aimed to discover new information about these changes, through a knowledge source accessible to all of us, our dreams. Our project was to 'Travel to 2012', and if possible to discover the role of the 'Earth Dreamers' forum (as it was previously known), and 'dreaming with and for the earth itself'. We planned to achieve this through dream incubation via visualisation and stating our intention, before sleeping, and the techniques of lucid dreaming. The results were quite unexpected: --------------------------------------------------------- 2012: SEA LIFE (22 March 2003, by Explora) Lucid dreaming, I begin to sink into the earth, into a realm of energy, continuing a long spiral journey through the blackness. It is certainly not quick, but the rush of this type of travel, keeps my thoughts moving for most of the journey. After what seems like a minute, I begin to become a bit concerned at how long it's all taking. What can I do to maintain my lucidity, I wonder. Voicing words, to myself, I am soon relieved to find myself noticing new visual imagery. I see a city skyline at night, which I know to be important. I get the feeling that in the future I will no longer live where where I do at the moment, and will be closer to the city. I eventually find myself in a room, which in some ways resembles the living room of my house, but which seems to be my office. Here, I see an iMac like machine, produced by Apple. I press the power on key, and am relieved when it turns on directly, without the need for the entire startup process to take place. Instantly, I notice the words 'Sea Life' centered on the top menu bar. It seems important, as though it is the title of the product the company is working on. It reminds me of the way a company produces a background image, for itself. It gives me a sense of deja-vu, as though I have already heard this name somewhere before in a dream. I look at the column of icons along the left side of the screen. I notice there is alot of Adobe software. I notice 'Adobe Sea Life' in particular. This strikes me as a little bizarre, and interested, I click on the program. It loads, and a picture of a tank like area with sea life on the left side of the pool shows. I see an animation, perhaps of the mutation or growth of a species of sea life. The creatures move to the right. Still, a little confused, I decide to see what else I can find on the table. Reaching to the back, behind all the other little items there, I find a business card. Along the back are a list of peoples names, about 10-12 in total. I run through the list, noticing one that's underlined. It seems this is the main number for the company. At this point, I begin to wonder what the company is called. Flipping to the other side of the card, I see the name, 'Don Marti & Architects'. ------------------------------------------------------------ Initially, I was quite confused. While I'd enjoyed the journey and felt that it was a very real experience, I couldn't really make sense of why the product was called 'Adobe SeaLife'. Why would a group with the name 'Don Marti & Architects' be producing Adobe software. After all Adobe is a very large organisation! I was also a little confused, as I wondered whether it was possible the dream was referring to some type of career in the computer software industry. I'm currently studying telecommunications at university, but had deeply hoped that my future career would involve the arts of dreaming. Thankfully, I am also a member of the World Dreams Peace Bridge, a much larger group. I decided to share my dream, to see what others thought of it. I received a variety of interpretations, but I felt a particularly strong resonance with San's comments: "I would look to the word Adobe. For me, having Adobe PhotoShop and Adobe PageMaker, I might consider if it had any meaning for me there, but stronger still for me, the nature of adobe. Unfired clay. Sometimes I work with unfired clay as a medium for my art. It's very satisfying in that it's pliable, flexible and cooperative until I'm ready, and then it dries into a shape of my choosing. When I am ready (or not sometimes) I can break it, or leave it to the rain, or divide it between friends in ceremony, etc. Ultimately, it returns to the place it began, as we all do. ...so for me the Sea Life and the Adobe might provide for an interesting transformation and I'd have to imagine how I'd want it to unfold ... perhaps one lapping wave at a time ..." Link: http://www.worlddreamspeacebridge.org/ These wonderful words seemed to redirect me to my hearts wishes, for it reminded me of what I felt about the nature of dreaming. I decided to research the name 'Don Marti' a little. Having said this, I was still considering the possibility, that I may be involved in software development, and assumed that if this were the case I'd be working in Australia (as this is where I currently live). I keyed in his name, and was surprised to find that he was a well known article writer in the Linux scene. He seemed to be a key figure, in offering his opinions on the direction of the operating system. Somehow, the dream seemed to have drawn it's meaning from the name of a writer, I had previously never heard of. My first association of course, was the nature of the Linux platform, as open-source, and under development from anyone who chose to participate. This seemed to hold true for the work we were doing at the 'Earth Dreamers' web forum. Meanwhile, DM7, a member of the dream team I'm a part of, managed to visit 2012: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ATTEMPT TO ASTRAL TRAVEL... 2012 (29 March 2003, by DM7) Everything is so real so I have to use some Reality Check's. I try to push my finger through the wall, but it doesn't work. I try to pinch myself and it HURTS! "Maybe I'm not dreaming?" I thought, trying to be stubborn because I really want to travel into the future again. I check the clock and it remains the same. I slap myself really HARD and it is kind of numb, but I still can feel the pain. I'm really confused about if I'm actually dreaming or not. I finally try to back trace where I am. I come to the conclusion that I WAS from my bed. "There is a possibility that I'm dreaming, but no matter what I do... it won't tell me if I'm dreaming." I thought... trying to figure out if it's actually a dream or not. I'm extremely confused, but then finally, I thought, "How about trying to travel to the future... if you can do it, then you're dreaming. If you can't, then you're not dreaming." So I proceed, trying to think how to travel since I usually go outside and fly toward the sky, but I can't float and I get an impression that I'm locked in the house. I can't think of anything except yelling out my command so I did. I yell, "TRAVEL TO THE FUTURE IN THE YEAR OF 2012... NOT 2,012 YEARS LATER, BUT THE YEAR OF 2012... NOW!" To my surprise, the scene changes. "That's way too easy!" I thought. I'm still in my house and it still looks very much the same, but my parents are busy doing something in the kitchen. I turn around, trying to find some kind of a source to tell me the year it is. I find a huge TV in the middle of the hall. I get an impression that it is actually there so I can ask for the year. I go to it and to my surprise, I have full control over the TV. I ask it what year it is right now and "2012" in green text appears on the TV while it is on the news channel. I don't understand the news anyways so I go into the computer room. I notice that I have carpal tunnel braces on. I try to get them off. While I do that, I lose my lucidity. Luckily my intention is strong enough to be continued. I get on the computer and check on the forum. There are two different forums. One is from dreamofpeace.net and other one is more like a dream interpretation forum. I notice that there are much more active members on the latter (perhaps more users there as well). I notice that there are a lot people starting to be concerned about their dreams, requesting for the interpretation. I get an impression that year of 2012 is a "opening" time for people about dream interpretation where it will eventually lead to lucid dreaming and dreaming of peace, etc. The topic of "dreaming" is still very much underground like it is right now, but there are more members there. The next thing I know is that I wake up. ------------------------------------------------------------- As well as demonstrating a fun and original 'reality check' for use in lucid dreaming, DM7's story shed valuable light on the role of the forum in the future. I was quite excited by these events, as I often share the Dreampeace website address with other people I meet who are interested in dreams. Recently, I've begun to wonder how useful it would be to many visitors, because of the lack of a general forum for discussion of dreams. DM7's dream reinforced the value of another forum, to help encourage people to move from not only sharing their dreams, but also to actively seeking adventure and guidance for the world this way. A few days later, in a response, to a dream I had posted online, entitled 'Dance of the Spirit', another dreamer 'Singer', replied: ------------------------------------------------------------- Hello, Explora! I enjoyed reading your dream posts very much. Dreams are so important, especially positive ones that foster taking better care of ourselves and our beautiful planet! Our future survival depends on it! I was reading a book called Matter into Feeling by F. A. Wolf, Ph.D., who put it very nicely when he wrote, as an example: "The dream experiences of Australian Aboriginal people indicate that the needed characteristic arises, is first born, in dreams. Each creature dreams of the possibility for the next evolution, so that, for example, the fish dreams of the amphibian and the amphibian dreams of the bird, and so on. That is, we first dream in order to become aware of our future possibilities --- the new ways that each one of us may exist. And the ability to sense oneself as something new or altered seems to be vital for survival, for altering the genetic code." Let us keep dreaming! Love and Light to All --------------------------------------------------------------- This seemed to fit the theme of 'Sea Life' perfectly. It conjured up the same animation, I had witnessed in my dream voyage to 2012, of the sea life mutating and evolving in the tank. More importantly, it demonstrated what I believe we are doing through dreaming, we are learning to become aware of our future possibilities not only as individuals but also on a planetary level. A week later, through a strange series of coincidences, I happened to stumble across, a web forum called The Fishbowl, run by the magnificent Toko-Pa. I quite enjoyed the discussion here, due to it's obvious direction with regards to spreading the potential of dreaming, and it's clear distribution of information. When Toko-Pa mailed me asking me to add a link from Dreampeace to the forum, I was quite honoured. I soon realised that this was a wonderful opportunity to offer consistency with DM7's vision of an alternate and more open dreaming forum: "Dream School is an innovative organisation dedicated to the integration of dreamsharing into our culture. Offering a thriving dream forum called the Fishbowl, as well as creative seminars, lectures, private dreamwork and online resources." Link: http://www.herownroom.com/fishbowl Rather than just linking to the 'Fishbowl', it was decided to actually make it our sister forum. I was just putting together the updated website, when I became aware of the logical next step. I was wondering what to do about the icons for 'The Fishbowl' and 'Earth Dreamers' forums, when up popped a thought. The realisation that the 'Sea Life' program, the 'company' was working on, had been a new name for the 'Earth Dreamers' forum, all along. ************ CONCLUSION ************ Through this research project, we've seen the nature of mutual dreaming really come alive. I remain with the feeling that the energies of the 'galactic alignment' of the 2012-era, manifested themselves through our research project, resulting in a series of unexpected discoveries. I feel there was some inherent meaning to these, that we were actually being reminded of some strategies to assist us through the changes the earth is going through. Our initial intent was to discover more about the role of the 'Earth Dreamers' web forum. Our results: - In my journey to 2012, I appeared to be a key member of a company, called 'Don Marti & Architects' working on a product called 'Adobe Sea Life'. - DM7's dream of 2012, reflected a future need for more open dream interpretation, and a general discussion forum. The meaning of our dreams, could only be uncovered through a combination of techniques: At the time of my dream, I only knew the word Adobe as the name of a large software organisation. As a result of sharing the dream with the World Dreams Peace Bridge, I was lucky to receive a variety of interpretations, including San's reflection on it as 'Unfired clay', 'Pliable, flexible, Co-operative, until I'm ready, and then it dries into a shape of my choosing'. We could probably extend this a little and call it a shape of our choosing. The meaning of the name 'Don Marti & Architects', was initally completely unknown to me. I was a little suspicious about this, so I thought I'd check out the name on the internet. Don Marti, proved to be a key writer and reviewer of an open-source operating system. I would guess that this strongly relates to my own future path, and that of the other 'architects' involved in our work at the 'Sea Life' forum. What makes this interesting, is that the meaning relied on an external source of information, namely the internet. My dream appeared to not only draw it's information from the future, but also from the heart of our collective consciousness. The key to uncovering the meaning of the word 'Sea Life' hinged upon a series of future events coming together, in synchronisation. Firstly, as a result of posting a dream 'Dance of the Spirit', I discovered what the reference to 'Sea Life' was all about: realising our own potential by first dreaming it. Next, a strange series of events led me to come across a wonderful forum called the 'Fishbowl', drawing upon DM7's vision of an alternative dream forum. Finally, we have the logical next step of realising the similarities in themes between the 'Fishbowl' and 'Sea Life'. I think we see three themes being stressed here: the importance of sharing our dreams, of our spiritual unity, and finally of the key role of time in synchronisation and bringing together these concepts. As a result of these changes, we now have a new forum for dream interpretation and general dreams discussion called the 'Fishbowl', and the renaming of the 'Earth Dreamers' forum to something a little more intriguing, 'Sea Life'. Through this alignment of direction and themes between the respective forums, people are more likely to find a place where they feel comfortable sharing and envision their dreams. Surely this will have a beneficial role, as dreams continues to take a greater place in our society. We are all intimately connected to one another. In the place of the heart, we are all one being, none of us separated from any other. Let us remember this as we 'Dream Our Way To 2012'. Stay tuned next week for the results of our research into the topic of 'Dreams and Healing'. In the meantime, Dreamers are invited to simply contact, or to share their dreams of 2012, with Nick (Explora) Email: explora@dreamofpeace.net Blessings and a Big Thank you to All the Dreamers of the World! ************************************************************ RESOURCES Time of Global Shift Link: http://www.timeofglobalshift.com/ Dream School Link: http://www.herownroom.com/ Harmonic Convergence: Messages from the Star People: 2012 Vortex Link: http://healing-arts.org/spider/vortexexcerpt.htm The World Thirteen Moon Calendar Change Peace Movement Link: http://www.tortuga.com/ Dreaming Our Way to the Heart of the World Link: http://www.mossdreams.com/ World Dreams Peace Bridge Link: http://www.worlddreamspeacebridge.org/ Dreams of the Great Earth Changes: All About 2012 Link: http://www.greatdreams.com/2012.htm ****************************************** o|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|o SAYING OUR GOODBYE'S By Ed Bonapartian o|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|+|o As far as phone calls go I'm always leery of the ones that arrive late in the night; in my life they always seem to be a harbinger of bad news. This call was no different and when I heard my mother in-law Charlotte's voice, I knew that bad tidings were arriving once again, as she broke the news to me that Sandy; a close member of the family had just died. There wasn't much else that she could say; the news wasn't unexpected since he had been taken to Hospice just that morning. But I also knew from experience that you can never adequately prepare yourself for the emotions that come during a loved one's passing. As I listened to the grief etched in her voice, I closed my eyes and brought an image of Sandy into my mind and mentally I wished his spirit well wherever it may have gone on its next journey. He had fought a hard fight against cancer, but in the end his body had simply given out. As the family gathered at my mother in-laws house the next morning, I sat in the kitchen sipping my coffee while staring at a picture of him perched on a living room shelf. Since he had been a companion to Charlotte for close to twenty years, I had over a decade of memories to look back on. To our family and friends, Sandy had been known for his love of playing cards. Often I would arrive at her house to find him on the front porch or at the kitchen table dealing out the cards for another Poker game, as he and his friends taunted each other about their card skills with an Italian dialect few could understand. But one memory stood out in my mind and it was the memory of a dream he had shared with us a few months before his death. It was a dream that came at a time when his body was weak, suffering the effects left by the radiation treatments, which caused him to spend most of his days sleeping. In his dream, Sandy finds himself healthy and free of the pain that had manifested itself in his waking life, as he sits at a table playing cards. All his friends are there with smiles and laughter, celebrating the joy that can only be found in long friendships. In this card game, Sandy is king. Every hand is a winning hand and no one can come close to beating the cards he holds before him. As the dream ends Sandy is left with a clear memory of that card game. It made such an impression on him that he mentioned it to Charlotte the next morning. At this point I knew that his dream had been a healing dream, a message to both him and his family that all would be well after he passed. However, I also felt that it was a dream that needed to be told again now, to leave an image of Sandy in our hearts that we could hold on to as we dealt with our grief over his passing. Later that morning we made arrangements at a local funeral home for Sandy's burial. Since we would be holding a memorial service for him, I decided to honor his dream of the card game by using it as a sort of eulogy, which I could read out loud during the service. I figured this would give friends and family a fond memory to remember him by. After we had got home, Charlotte asked me to take Sandy's clothes over to the funeral home. As she handed them to me, she looked around the room concerned she might have forgotten something, which gave me a sudden insight. I asked her to give me a deck of his cards, the ones he used during his card games. As she handed them to me, I could see her eyes fill up with tears, in those cards was a lifetime of memories for her. Gently, I told her that we were going to send Sandy off right; that we were going to honor his dream of the card game by putting a deck of cards in his shirt pocket, the same way he had always carried them around when he was alive. For me, it was my way of honoring his memory and saying goodbye. A few days later, the priest of the church where the service was to be held, rejected my idea of my giving a eulogy during his memorial service due to my not being a member of the church. My initial reaction was one of anger. I'm a real stickler for honoring dreams but in this case I realized my frustration with the church was not going to get me anywhere. Instead, on the day of his service, one of my sister-in laws, Shelby gave a short but very moving eulogy. I realized this was her way of honoring his memory and saying goodbye. Life goes like that sometimes, what you think should happen doesn't but what needs to happen does. Our dreams also work like that; they cross the bridge between the living and the departed and in doing so often leave us with a way of saying goodbye that we never expected. But that bridge works both ways, in that it allows the departed to say their goodbyes to us as well. In the ensuing months it was apparent thru our dreams, that Sandy was not going leave without saying his goodbyes also. A few weeks after his memorial service, I received another phone call from Charlotte. I had been in a hurry to be on time for an appointment; however, as soon as I heard her words saying to me that I was the only person she could talk to, I stopped dead in my tracks. Something in the tone in her voice told me that I needed to listen very carefully to the dream she was about to tell me. Originally a bit skeptical about dream work, she now felt that no one else would believe her experience from that morning. She had awoken a bit earlier than her alarm was set for, and as she lay in bed in that twilight zone between sleep and being fully awake, she heard a most melodic sound, as if someone was playing a musical instrument she had never heard before. Looking over in the direction of the sound, she realized it was a row of metal hangers that were hung on a small clothes rack across the room. They were swaying as if moved by a gentle breeze and something in the movement and sound immediately brought an image of Sandy to her mind. Now fully awake, she spoke out loud; " You old son of a gun, you wanted me to know that you were ok, didn't you". Since there had not been an open window in her room or anything else to explain the hanger's movement, in her heart she knew this experience had been his way of letting her to know he was doing well. In the spring after Sandy's interment, my wife had a dream where she and Sandy were dancing together alone in the cafeteria of the church school she had attended as a child. Since my wife always enjoyed dancing with Sandy at social occasions, I told her that if it were my dream I would wonder if her dream was his way of having one last dance together. A way of saying good-bye to her, with a memory of a dance never forgotten. Just before Sandy's death we had received news that my other sister in law Kelly, was going to have a baby. The timing of this news in the context of Sandy's illness was of great comfort to our family. Where there once had only been the potential for an ending, there was now the news of a beginning, for us the cycles of life would run full circle and it was just before Kelly gave birth, that one last goodbye would be said. It arrived in a dream that Kelly had during the time she and her husband were thinking of names for the baby. In her dream Kelly finds herself at work as she hears that the TV show "Crossing Over" with spiritual medium John Edwards is going to be filming a show there. Kelly then finds herself in an empty auditorium. She sees John Edwards walk up on the stage and he tells her he is communicating with Sandy. When she asks him what Sandy is saying, he tells her that Sandy says to name the baby after him. Given Sandy's easygoing relationship with Kelly when he had been alive, it didn't surprise me that he had one last moment of fun with her. A joke shared between friends, and a way of saying goodbye, in the land of dreams where those who have departed will always be close. I also mentioned that we could go and visit my grandmother who has been gone for many years, he took me to this house, and I remember that the floors were wooden and there were lights on and as we were going through this doorway to enter a room, a child appeared and it was a young boy about 6-7 yrs old, then the rest of the children appeared as we entered the room, they were playing games like pinball machines or something, I remember asking my guide if the children were all dead and he replied yes. I remember just about as we were about to leave that there was another child and then a dog came running out from somewhere in the house and I again asked if the dog was dead he said yes. The children told me that they were quite happy and loved being there, somehow that made me happy, all of the children had smiles. My guide told me as we were leaving that I didn't have to try and breath because it was not necessary, he then asked me if I would like to see outside, and I said yes. It was bright and sunny, there was a stream with all sorts of lush greenery and flowers, there was not a breeze and it was not hot it was a great feeling of beauty and peace and the grass was beautiful as I had never seen, the colors were magnificent, the sky was blue, nothing but quiet all around, I kept looking for my grandmother and then I woke up. Time of Dream 4 years ago In my dream I was shown to this normal looking front door, and someone or something was urging me to enter. When I went toward the door I got such a feeling of terror I was so frightened of what was behind that door. Well I woke up for real, had a few mins trying to shake it off then lay down again and went to sleep. As soon as I did I was back at the same door with the strongest compulsion to enter, but again such terror gripped me,I woke up again and it must have took me an hour to get rid of the feeling of terror I had. 3 years later the memory of that dream was still strong in my mind and I now feel I know what it was about. 2 years ago I was diagnosed as having Cancer, well you think death straight off,but a week later I had accepted it, then I was cleared. 1 year later I was again very ill and thought I was going to die,but I was only a bit scared for a day. So my dream,it was either a way to take away a lot of my fear, or someone or something gave me 2 more chances in life. Probably should,nt a put this on this site, but I would like to know what others think. Myself I got The Reaper tatto on my arm to mock him,but I wonder, will I see that door again. comments: ________________________________________________________________________ Message: 651-001 [ed.note: post removed - non-dream content] ________________________________________________________________________ Message: 651-002 Subject: screaming faces the dream started off in a large house. there were four males sitting in a very decorated and expensive den. They were all talking about whether they were in love with each other or not. at the time it was like i was watching a movie, but the room began to spin... next we were all walking in a parkinglot, (wallmart i think?) and the tall skinny man to my left was hit by a car and everything began to spin again... back to the den....there was this old man, ancient almost. he looked like he might be dead becuase his skin was very pale, perhaps a shade of blue, he also had rotten teeth and a hole in the side of his head, like a gunshot wound. he kept pointing at me and yelling 'what evil have i done to you?" then just as he raised his hand to slap me in the face, i woke up....... ne ideas? lemme know! snt comment: ________________________________________________________________________ Message: 651-003 Subject: slamming and screaming i was in this large white room, the walls were very filthy. there was a huge rusty metal door to my right and a chair in the center with broken pieces of twine tied all over it. i heard the door slam, i looked over and saw it closed. then it began to slam over and over again. i tried to keep it close but i couldn't. then a little girl came over to me and touched my hand, i let go of the door and she grabbed the door handle, when she did it stopped slamming. then she slowly walked over to the chair and sat down. the twine wrapped itself all over her like it was alive. she started screaming and the door started slamming agian. then it was all quiet...'the door has been opened'... she said in a low voice. her eyes widened and began to turn the color of blood, she began to scream again..it was so loud. the door slammed open one final time and this great smoky shadow stepped inside... i tried to see his face, but there was nothing, only darkness.i was so afraid. he started to hover above me and then fell suddenly on top of me, i couldn't breath, the air turned thick and hurt my lungs, as if i was breathing in poisen. i thought i was dying, then she screamed again, and i woke up. -this dream really really scared me, hope you can figure it out, cuz i surely can't! comments: ________________________________________________________________________ Message: 652-001 [ed.note: post removed - non-dream content] ________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________ -------------------- END DREAMS ----------------- -===-===-===-===-===-===-===-===-===-===-===-===-===- =---=---=---=---=---=---=---=---=---=---=---=---=---= ELECTRIC DREAMS ACCESS INFORMATION =---=---=---=---=---=---=---=---=---=---=---=---=---= -===-===-===-===-===-===-===-===-===-===-===-===-===- Subscriptions: The Electric Dreams E-zine (issn 1089 4284) is *free* and distributed via email about once a month.
