We have many new subscribers this Month, so I just wanted to run over some of the basics. This is great month to have joined us. We have lots of information about our dream groups below. If you haven't tried one yet, I highly recommend them. Electric Dreams began as a dream sharing group and continues to explore ways we can use the Net to share dreams. This e-zine comes out once a month and anyone may contribute. You might think of this as a kind of free-speech forum for dreams and dreaming, though I like to encourage cyber-related dream sharing as a focus. This openness has led to some difficulties in the past. Why? If I share a dream and you say something mean or unkind, or act like an authority on its meaning and value, I am at risk of being harmed and swallowed up by your views and theories. One solution is to ban all unkind views and comments. Another solution is to allow people in the community to respond to ignorant and dangerous remarks. We have kind of taken the first path with the dream groups and the second path of openness with the e-zine. The dream groups are very carefully structured and the highest ethical guidelines are followed. [See eDreams instructions or the DreamWheel invitation for our dream group ethics statement adapted from the Association for the Study of Dreams.] This e-zine is pretty much an open forum as long as it has to do with dreams and dreaming. When problems do arise, the staff will vote on the issue and the results will be reported publicly on the e-zine. We do this because *you* own Electric Dreams. We are all volunteers, all our information is free, and all our groups and programs are free. When money is donated, it goes into the production of online projects and resources in dreams and dreaming. Anyone who wishes may be a staff member. There really is no Electric Dreams website. The community is distributed and the pieces of the site, the backissues, the news, the articles and illustrated covers, are spread around various sites online. If you would like to build your own dream site that contributes to the whole Electric Dreams community, then you are part of Electric Dreams. Feel free to mirror any part of the project and freely distribute any part of the e-zine. Commercialism: Since we are a free, public service, we get to pretty much live outside of capital economy. We are willing to accept advertisements for dream related products either as news items or articles, if you give a little something with the advertisement, such as a discount to ED subscribers, useful dreams and dreaming information, or true changes in your dream related product. Generally, try not to use Electric Dreams as a billboard, but rather a forum or agora. If you are very new to dreamwork and dream sharing, please send in an e-mail to scoop@dreamgate.com for a list of suggested steps and resources in learning about dreamwork and dreaming online. So, what's up for the March issue? Please welcome Marc Vandekeere to the Electric Dreams Staff. Marc will not only be watching the Net for new lucid dream sites, but he is also contributing an ongoing column and will be heading up the Electric Dreams website awards. If you are interested in lucid dreaming, be sure to follow Marc's Six Basic Steps. This month: Doing the Mental Prep-Work. If you would like to join us in dreamland for a mutual dreaming event, we are meeting on on April 15th, 2000 at the entrance to the temple of Delphi, the Athene Pronea. If you prefer to join us in waking life, Alan Siegel will be joining Dream Time Live on a real time chat channel April 5, 2000 7 PM PST. For more information, send an e-mail to chat@asdreams.org Many thanks to Brett Lane Robertson, M Ed, for setting up this chat room. I also highly recommend the mail list DreamChatters for general discussion of topics in dreams and dreaming as well as the ASD bulletin board: DreamChatters: go to www.egroup.com ASD Bulletin Board: http://www.asdreams.org/subidxdiscussionsbboard.htm "The Dream Doctor" returns this month. Charles McPhee, Ph.D. Charles, author of _Stop Sleeping through your Dreams_ answers questions on dreams and dreaming. We have a very special section this month, a full transcript of a dream group from one of the Electric Dreams online groups. Usually these groups are closed to the public, but once a year we pick one and ask the participants if they would be willing to share the process so others can easily grasp & replicate the work. I have included with the transcript a brief history of the DreamWheels and instructions from Kathy Turner that are used by moderators to facilitate the groups. Special thanks to John Herbert, Ph.D., for his contributions to these dreamgroups and the study of computer mediated dream sharing. You can also learn more about these groups though Kathy Turner's DreamWheel update and Phyllis Howing's eDreams invitation. Madam Aionia and Island team up to talk about dream and astrology. It is quite interesting how they have taken the Houses and used them as metaphors for different kinds of dreams. This month, Fourth House Dreams. Peggy Coats, from dreamtree.com, has been gathering the news about dreaming from all around the Net and has the latest conferences, the best workshops, the finest dream events and all the updates on the latest and best web sites. Be sure to look over the Global Dreaming News for the events in your area. There are some new ASD announcements that will be coming out in a few days. You can get the scoop by sending an e-mail to the ASD News Autoresponder at news@asdreams.org Our Dreams this month come from all around the Net and have been organized by the software developed by Harry Bosma. In our dreamwork we danced with dreams involving a Spiritual Master and a "Tua" puppet, another with Jadzia Dax (from Star Trek, Deep Space Nine) and revenge and now one with spiders crawling out of a woman's leg with the jubilant cry "Taking Spider Power". We've also tried mutual dreaming and aimed to reach a party in the Giza pyramid on 15th February. The number of dreams which called up connections was remarkable: someone found a party and a metamorphosing baby; another a cobra and had a discussion with Richard Wilkerson about whether that was a successful mutual dream; another had a vague image of pyramids and someone else saw an Egyptian outside some great doors. One DreamWheeler even had a dream with strong connections to Egypt even though she had not consciously asked to be part of the mutual dreaming experience. Did we share dreams? - it is hard to tell - but we certainly are pretty good at calling up specific types of dreams. Soon we are trying again - this time to meet in an Underwater Garden (Victoria' Quinton's party). AND finally a few DreamWheelers had a long and interesting discussion on pre-cognitive dreams. We'll play with them too in the near future. Dreamchatters is an egroup aimed at discussing dreams, dreaming and making those online with an interest in these subjects able to keep in touch as it suits them. Although dreams are discussed there, the primary focus is dreaming community, rather than individual dreams. It is enlightening to see messages from individuals with diverse backgrounds. If any group member finds an interesting web site or article online, we pass it on and often that will begin a new thread of discussion. There is a capacity for a group calendar, member profiles and links to urls to be stored at egroups.com, so that new members may explore first. It is a place to beta test chat venues'; to try and help make the currently-available technology and capabilities of the internet more accessible to as many people as possible. Not only do current amd potential group members have differing computer hardware and software, but we also live in different parts of the world, so there has been discussion about "universal time" , time zone conversion, and scheduling formal chats at staggered times so that no one time zone is expected to always be up at, for instance, local 3am. For those of you who used to surf the Net when there were only 2 or three dream sites, you may remember Dream Lynx. It was first called "Dream Links" then shifted to avoid confusion with laberge's equipment. Linton Hutchinson and his crew put together a wonderful dream site with dream submission forms, bulletin board dream groups, dream education, links to research and more. Linton was programming CGI when the rest of us were still trying to figure out basic HTML. DreamLynx presented at the ASD 13 conference in Berkeley and provided a dream-beacon for years. E-mail : kellybulkeley@earthlink.net More about www.kellybulkeley.com Political Dreams: I have been doing research since 1992 on people's dreams of politics and politicians. The basic idea behind this research is that people's feelings and beliefs about the world of politics can have an effect on their dreams. While many psychologists think dreams are only about the personal concerns of the dreamer, I have found that people's dream involve a complex mixture of personal and communal concerns-in other words, dreams can be reflections of both your own individual life and the broader social world in which you live. If you have had any dreams of a political candidate (such as John McCain, Al Gore, George W. Bush, Bill Bradley), or if you have had any dreams that deal with politically-charged issues (such as abortion rights, gun control, affirmative action, taxes, national defense), I would be very interested in hearing about them. I'm also interested in hearing any past dreams you might have had about Bill Clinton, Newt Gingrich, Ronald Reagan, or other politicians. I keep all dream reports confidential, and I always change the names and any identifying characteristics in the reports to safeguard the privacy of the dreamer. I would happily offer you some comments on what your dream might mean, and I can also send you a description of my research findings after the Fall elections. If you could please tell me your age, your gender, your political affiliation if any (e.g., Republican, Democrat, Reform, Independent), and your own ideas about where you think the dream came from, that would be helpful. Transforming Dreams Learning Spiritual Lessons from the Dreams You Never Forget. (John Wiley & Sons, February 2000) Nearly everyone experiences, at least once or twice in their lives, a dream of extraordinary power and intensity, a dream that strikes an emotional chord deep within them. From the dawn of history people have regarded such dreams as an important source of spiritual wisdom and insight. Modern psychology, too, has long recognized the importance of these "Big Dreams"-- Carl Jung referred to them as "the richest jewels in the treasure-house of the soul." ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// ```````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` eDreams Information File ```````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` eDreams is an online dream group conducted via email, and intended for "dedicated dreamers" who already have experience working with dreams - especially those individuals who have spent some time participating in the DreamWheel online dream group. We go through the dreams as a group, one dream at a time, spending approximately two weeks on each. The first phase is the question phase, in which members ask clarification questions of the dreamer, who may or may not respond as he/she chooses. Next comes the comment phase, where members take the dream as if it were their own. Then the dreamer is invited to provide feedback. The process is non-defensive, fun and very revealing! We agree with the ethical position taken by the Association for the Study of Dreams (http://www.asdream.org), in that we support an approach to dreamwork and dream sharing that respects the dreamer's dignity and integrity, and which recognizes the dreamer as the decision-maker regarding the significance of the dream. Systems of dreamwork that assign authority or knowledge of the dream's meanings to someone other than the dreamer can be misleading, incorrect, and harmful. Ethical dreamwork helps the dreamer work with his/her own dream images, feelings, and associations, and guides the dreamer to more fully experience, appreciate, and understand the dream. Every dream may have multiple meanings, and different techniques may be reasonably employed to touch these multiple layers of significance. A dreamer's decision to share or discontinue sharing a dream should always be respected and honored. The dreamer should be forewarned that unexpected issues or emotions may arise in the course of the dreamwork. Information and mutual agreement about the degree of privacy and confidentiality are essential ingredients in creating a safe atmosphere for dream sharing. Dreamwork outside a clinical setting is not a substitute for psychotherapy, or other professional treatment, and should not be used as such. We recognize and respect that there are many valid and time-honored dreamwork traditions. We invite and welcome the participation of dreamers from all cultures. There are social, cultural, and transpersonal aspects to dream experience. In this statement we do not mean to imply that the only valid approach to dreamwork focuses on the dreamer's personal life. Our purpose is to honor and respect the person of the dreamer as well as the dream itself, regardless of how the relationship between the two may be understood. Located about one hundred miles northwest of Athens is the ancient site of the panhellenic sanctuary of Delphi. The complex of buildings, which includes the Temple of Apollo where sat the famous oracle, The sacred Corycian Cave, and the Castalian Spring, is nestled in the forested slopes and rocky crags on the south side of the sacred mountain called Parnassus. The site had been sacred since at least the Bronze Age. According to legend, the shrine was originally guarded by the she-dragon Pytho. She was killed by Apollo who then took over the oracle, but the oracle remained. Delphi was regarded as the center and navel of the world in ancient times. To enter the temple and ask the oracle a question, one had to first have an appropriate dream. We are asking everyone to meet at the entrance to the sacred area, a small round temple called the Athena Pronea. For a picture, see http://www.dreamgate.com/electric-dreams. Step 1 : Doing the Mental Prep-Work The Six Basic Steps by Marc Vandekeere The following is an excerpt from my manual, The Ultimate Lucid Dreaming Manual Basics and Beyond. I hope it can be used to maximize your lucid dreaming progress. If you find this information helpful you may want to check out my lucid dreaming website for further info, tips, resources and more. The URL of my site is http://how.to/luciddream and if you have any questions, feedback or comments, feel free to send me an email. I'm always happy to hear from other dreamers and love to help out. if and when I can, thelucidbird@mediaone.net . Stay lucid. So now we've come to the payoff. In order to make this material more user-friendly, the information has been divided into four categories, and there will also be an summarized outline at the end of the manual. By getting an overview at a glance, it may be easier for you to thoroughly learn, absorb and internalize all the information. Hopefully, it will help tighten all the concepts into one working whole. The Process Section One - The Six Basic Steps Section Two - Other methods Section Three - General tips Section Four - Tools and Tactics All these sections have one objective - teaching you how to become lucid in your dreams. After you've learned the process, methods, tips, tools, and tactics, we'll cover the more advanced techniques that you will need to know once you become lucid. The Process There are many techniques and methods that you can use for inducing lucid dreams, but there are basically two different ways of becoming lucid. You can either have dream-induced or wake-induced lucid dreams. Stephen LaBerge coined the term D.I.L.D. (Dream Induced Lucid Dream) for dreams in which you become lucid while within a dream. By training your awareness, you will somehow realize that you are dreaming while you are dreaming. This is by far the most common way of having a lucid dream, but it is also possible to directly enter a lucid dream from a waking state. These Wake Induced Lucid Dreams, or W.I.L.D.s, are far more rare, but as LaBerge so aptly labeled them, they are quite an experience. While covering the basics we will be dealing primarily with dream induced lucid dreams. When we move beyond the basics, we will be dealing with the more advanced techniques that will include inducing W.I.L.D.s. There are many methods to induce lucid dreams, but there is an underlying process behind most if not all of them. I've broken this underlying process down into six basic steps that will serve as our beginning regime. Once you absorb these steps and start following them, it is only a matter of time before you have your first lucid dream. In case you are wondering how long it will take for you to have you first one, just follow through with the steps and have faith that you will have one. According to statistics, the time it takes for someone to have their first lucid dream averages from three weeks to two months, but yours may be tonight so don't be discouraged if you try for a while and don't succeed. There seems to be an obsession in our society for instant results. If you are one of these people, realize that this is one of your first obstacles to overcome. Only one thing is certain - If you never stop trying, you are guaranteed to succeed. The Six Basic Steps 1) Doing the Mental Prep-Work 2) Increasing dream recall 3) Keeping a dream journal 4) Becoming familiar with your Dreams 5) Adding Awareness to your Waking Consciousness 6) Linking your Awareness to your Dreams Step One) Doing the Mental Prep-Work This step involves setting up the right mental foundation and building a mental framework that will maximize your success. In order to do this you must take a look at your belief systems. I can't emphasize enough the crucial role that our belief systems play in determining our experience. As you develop your ability to lucid dream, you will be directly interacting with your thoughts and your belief systems, and you will be able to experience first hand how important it is to manage your thoughts. Here are four key questions that you need to ask yourself. Do you think you can do this? Do you think dreams are important? Do you really want to have lucid dreams? Do you know what you will do when you become lucid? Not only should you be asking yourself these questions, but you should also be taking an active part in strengthening these beliefs or changing them if that is the case. Let's go over each of these questions to emphasize what kind of mental prep-work you need to be doing. "Do you think you can do this?" For starters, you must always have a positive attitude. If you have any doubts, then your first assignment is to replace each and every doubt with a self-empowering belief. If you think lucid dreaming is some rare phenomenon, realize that it is a natural ability. There are literally thousands of lucid dreamers out there, and you too can become one by following the Six Basic Steps. If you think it is going to be difficult, assure yourself that it will come naturally. Just remember, tying your shoes as a child was difficult but with time it became second nature, and so too will lucid dreaming. As soon as you have your first lucid dream, it will be that much easier to have a second one, and a third one, and in due time you will be having them consistently. "Do you think dreams are important?" Once you have a positive, confident attitude, the next step is to make dreaming a top priority. The simple act of believing that your dreams are important will dramatically increase your results. Most people don't place any emphasis on their dreams so they in turn don't recall many dreams, and not surprisingly most of these people are not even aware that it is possible to have lucid dreams. They don't know any better because they haven't made dreaming a priority. You, on the other hand, will view your dreams as an important part of your life, and this will speed up your progress substantially. "Do you really want to have lucid dreams?" The key to this question is desire and enthusiasm. The more you cultivate your desire to have lucid dreams, the more emotionally charged your intent will be. The more charged your intent is, the more likely that these desires will produce results. Along the same lines, the more enthusiastic you are towards learning how to lucid dream, the more you will absorb and the more you will be actively drawing this experience towards you. Sending messages to your subconscious that you think dreams are important and that you enthusiastically want to have them will speed up your progress dramatically. "Do you know what you will do when you have a lucid dream?" The point of this question is to be purposefully prepared. It sounds so simple, but just by having a predetermined plan of action you will increase the odds of becoming lucid. If you have a goal or a mission planned, you will have that much more reason to become lucid and carry out your mission. The plan should be well thought out and thoroughly embedded in your mind. Throughout the day and before going to bed, remind yourself of your goal, and in keeping with the last question, cultivate a desire to fulfill your goal. In the beginning, you may want to keep your plan simple. Your goal may be as simple as looking at your hands or surveying the dreamscape or maybe you would like to fly. As you develop the ability to prolong your lucid dreams, you will be able to carry out more elaborate missions. So be positive. Replace doubt with confidence and skepticism with belief. View your dreams as being important. Make dreaming a priority. Cultivate your desire to reach your goal. Be enthusiastic. Be prepared and have a plan. As you can see these mental prep-work concepts do overlap and intertwine, so start making all of them work for you today. This mental conditioning will not only help speed up the lucid dreaming process, but you can apply it to any other aspects of your life that you would like to develop. I seemed to keep putting off moving it or feeding it hay. In my mind, though, I could visualise what I wanted for the pony - lush pasture, rolling green hills, a sparkling stream... I stood watching it for a long time. Suddenly a girl I used to go to primary school with appeared. (She was my best friend back then but I haven't seen her for about 10 years). She told me off angrily. Unfazed I replied, "Yeah, I'm going to do something about it..." She snapped furiously, "It will Starve to death!" Then she dissapeared. I felt a bit cross and guilty. I let the pony into the next paddock (which wasn't much better). I walked around finding it food. There was an old house (appeared abandoned) with a decrepit vegie garden outside. In it were some remnants of lettuces. I fed some leaves to the pony. It moved into the garden and ate some more. There wasn't a complete fence around this paddock so later I had to put it back in the old paddock... My overall feeling that I can recall was frustration or not knowing what to do, also a strange reluctance or inability to act. The pony meanwhile was not blaming me in any way but just getting on with its business (of trying to scratch up scraps of food). It didn't necessarily even appear distressed. It was delighted with the lettuce scraps I fed it later in the dream and went actively seeking more itself. After going over this dream many times I began to feel, first that the pony was a young female, and later that it represented my daughter. This horrified me as naturally I would not like to think I am neglecting my child in any way!!! However there are problems at the moment involving her schooling. She is very bright and far ahead of her class mates. My repeated attempts to get the school to provide an appropriate program for her have been fruitless. Therefore I certainly feel like I am standing helplessly watching her search for scraps in a barren paddock. I think it is a shove to provide "sustenence," in the form of learning, myself. The following night I asked for a dream to "explain" the pony dream and received a much simpler dream without symbols refering mainly to my daughter's school and her work. Well, those are my feelings...what do you think!? - Angie, Age 29, Warrnambool, AUSTRALIA Hi Angie - If your daughter takes after her mom, I have little doubt that she is a straight-A student! I think you did a great job of interpreting your own dream! When we awaken from an emotionally puzzling dream whose meaning is not immediately visible to us - we need to know some simple dream skills to help us unravel the dream's message. In your case, you took all the right steps. You reviewed the dream several times in your mind, allowing yourself to feel your feelings and noting any associations and memories (no matter how bizarre) that "popped" into your mind. Soon you began to get the feeling that the pony was female, and eventually you decided that it was a dream symbol representing your daughter, whose educational needs currently are not being met. Surprise! I agree with you that the pony symbolizes your daughter's educational plight. I also think the sudden appearance of your "best friend from primary school" confirms this hunch. Who else do we know, currently, who is in primary school? Many readers no doubt are wondering why the dream - if it really was about your daughter - would go to all the trouble to represent her as a pony searching for food. It sounds complicated. For example, why not a simple dream where your daughter appeared to you complaining about school? Or perhaps a simple image of your daughter's school in a dilapidated and worn-down condition? The answer to this excellent question is found in your very own comments upon uncovering the symbolic meaning of the "hungry pony." You wrote, "This horrified me as naturally I would not like to think I am neglecting my child in any way!!!" It is apparent that, coupled with your awareness that your daughter needs a more challenging school environment, a sense of personal responsibility lingers. Specifically, you worry that you are not doing enough for your child. Accordingly, your dream is a fine illustration of the psychological phenomenon of resistance: we all tend to avoid recognizing feelings and awarenesses that we find uncomfortable or disturbing. It is your desire to avoid this awareness - that you are "neglecting your daughter" (be it valid or not) - that causes the dream to speak in camouflaged and symbolic language. And indeed, your dream the following night, which you wrote was "simpler" and "without symbols refering mainly to my daughter's school and her work" confirms our theory. Once you recognized the disturbing feeling that lay behind the first dream - there was no more need for symbols or disguise. Congratulations on being such a good student of your inner voice! I agree that your dream is a "call-to-action" in regard to your daughter's education. With your mind now fully attuned to the problem, I am sure you will be much more effective in your efforts to move her into a "new paddock" - one that does have a complete fence around it. What is the message of this dream? To grow into healthy, happy adults, all our ponies need lush pastures, rolling green hills, and sparkling streams... And it is our responsibility to provide it for them. And, although this Internet is not a private place, giving this dream to you feels safe to me." Angela Introduction The Electric Dreams community began as an online dream sharing group in 1994 and has continued over the years to explore how the Internet can be used for dreamwork and dream sharing. Some of these experiments have been very successful and have continued as long term groups. The DreamWheel, for example, has been in continuous operation since 1995. Many moderators and members have shared dreams through this e-mail based discussion list. The model for the group, based on the work of John Herbert, Ph.D., has been used by many other groups in variations that suit the needs of the participants. One spin-off group, called eDreams, has graciously consented to allow the Electric Dreams E-zine to publish a full transcript of a group that took place between January and February of 2000. Normally these sessions are very confidential and closed to general public inspection. The dreamer was asked (after the group was done) if she was willing for the session to be published, and upon obtaining her consent, the consent of the other participants followed. Below is an example release form collected by the facilitator: [ X] Yes, I agree to allow Electric Dreams to publish my comments to XXXXX about the dream "Mel", posted February 7, 2000 on the Electric Dreams eDreams group. I understand that I will be assigned a pen-name and all references to individuals and groups will be changed as well. The process used by the group is quite simple. The participants sign up on the elist, usually anonymously, agree to the ethics statement and send in dreams to the facilitator. The facilitator orders the dreams and the group begins working on them one at a time. First the group is requested to send in questions about the dream to the dreamer. That is, all questions are sent to the elist, but addressed to the dreamer. These questions are for clarification of dream imagery rather than calls for interpretation. The dreamer may or may not reply. Then the facilitator moves the group onto the comment phase. Here each participant takes the dream as if it were his or her own dream and sends these notes to the group. Again, the dreamer may or may not reply and some final discussion and closure may occur. For a fuller description of the process, see "A Brief History of the Electric Dreams DreamWheel" in Electric Dreams 7(4), May 2000, and the "DreamWheel Instructions" by Kathy Turner and Richard Wilkerson. Many thanks are in order. To the dreamer, here named "Angela", whose generosity and openess has made this particular dreamwork possible, we are all in your debt. To the facilitator, whose editing skills in bringing all the comments and questions and answers together into one document and being instrumental in the selection, many thanks. To the eDreams group who consented to have their questions and comments published, again, many thanks. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ The Dream Date: Fri, 28 Jan 2000 Angela's Dream Mel 12/12/99 7:15A I'm in the room where we all gather before we start working. (Not true in waking life). On this day, I go to talk to Mel. Two other people are here already and look asleep. We talk. We get closer. I think, Maybe today will be the day. She tugs on me a little. We are as close as we can get. We kiss on the face. I'm scared. It doesn't feel good, but I'm afraid this will get out of control so I open my eyes and say, "Don't you dare kiss me on the lips." She smiles and opens her eyes and says, "Why not?" We lie on the couch. I look around at the other people. The two men look asleep but one opens his eyes halfway and closes them. It's possible he is pretending to be asleep. The others don't look like they are paying attention to us. I answer, "Because nobody knows I'm whatever it's called." I put my hand under her. We lie there. I wonder how she knows, so I ask, "How do you know? Is it the way I look, or dress, or what?" Mel: "Oh, the other day you mentioned not having any eggs and so had to order some." I picture the shipment I had gotten and wonder how that is evidence. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Dreamer's Answers To Questions From: Angela Date: Sat, 29 Jan 2000 Dear Bubbles, Thanks for your questions. I'm glad you are willing to touch this one. 1) Describe Mel. Does she seem the same as in life? A) Mel was exactly the same as in waking life. She is a 30+/- black woman that grew up on the tough side of town. She has extremely short hair, wears men's work boots and a leather jacket. She is not someone the "world" would consider pretty or beautiful, but in making an effort to get to know her, I found a sparkle in her eyes and smile that touches my heart. I like her very much. 2) why are you scared and why doesn't it feel good? only because people are around or what exactly? A) I'm scared because kissing another woman is supposed to be so wrong to want to do, I'm married and I can already tell (at this point in the dream) if I let down my guard I will enjoy this and that will be very confusing to me. I'm scared because I wanted this to happen and here is my big chance, but fear has set in. When I think in the dream, "It doesn't feel good," I'm actually thinking, "This doesn't feel good yet." This is partially due to being too scared to let it feel good. 3) Are the men "sleeping" near you lovers? Do you know them? Describe what you can of them. A) The men are unfamiliar to me in waking life but are people I work with in the dream. They are asleep in separate chairs, kind of slouched down like when one falls asleep watching TV. They look to be about 55+ years old. In the dream I think they sleep during this gathering time before work because they think it is a dumb thing to be social with the other workers but it is a requirement to at least be here for it. 4) Do you understand what Mel means when she speaks of eggs? A) Yes. The eggs are human ovum. 5) what are you talking about in your last sentence: "I picture the shipment I had gotten and wonder how that is evidence" A) In this sentence in this dream, I am recalling the ovum (eggs) I had ordered and received days earlier because (in the dream) I don't have any. Not because of menopause but because I have some defect and just don't have any. What the dreaming me pictures is a small open package, kind of like a sardine can, packed full with small jelly-like "eggs". I wonder how having no ovum is evidence or would suggest to Mel that I may be 'whatever it's called'. (The dreaming me can't seem to come up with the thought or words lesbian or bisexual.) ((To tell you the truth, the waking me has the same problem.)) -- Thank you so much Bubbles for these questions. I appreciate the opportunity to answer them Take care, Angela ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ From: Angela Date: Mon, 31 Jan 2000 Dear "an elemental", It is my desire to answer your questions as clearly as possible. I wish I could draw you a picture. The dream is still very clear to me, but I've changed a lot since having it. I'm going to do my best to stick with my thoughts and feelings as they were at the time of the dream. Q/ Please describe everything you can about the room (eg colour, atmosphere, where everyone is seated/standing etc., who the people are, what else is in the room, where is it in relation to your work). Also where are you in the room? (eg when you enter, when you move close to Mel? When you lie down with Mel? Do you change position after that?) Do you have any sense in the dream about what work you are all involved in and why you need to meet before hand? Do you in your daytime life work with Mel? A/ A large room that does not exist in waking life. About 30'x 40'. Ceiling height is about 15'. The door is on a 30' side. Several windows on one of the 40' walls. If you were to walk in through the door into the room, picture yourself entering on a stage of an school gym. Walk straight ahead several steps to three stairs going down into the gym/room. The stairs are the entire width of the room. The window wall would be to your left. I am already in the room when the dream begins, more or less in the middle. The room is dusty and messy. Kind of depressing. I see lots of gray and beige tones. Through the windows I can see it is a sunny day. There is a hodge podge of furniture. Like this assortment of couches, chairs, tables are just bits and pieces of things nobody wants any more. Like thrift shop items. No organized arrangement. The chairs the two men are in are cushy arm chairs with low backs. I see Mel across the room and walk to her (maybe 12 feet). We stand facing each other, about two feet apart, and there is a high table or ledge between us. Kind of like the size and dimensions of an ironing board. We are about 5 feet from the two men at this point, not too far from the center of the room, but closer to the side with windows. Later in the dream when I notice others have arrived, maybe three, they are standing on the stairs chatting. All women I believe, and again, not familiar to me in waking life, not strangers in the dream. Where is work? Well, we all work in different departments but out through that door is where we will all go to work. We are all involved in the work we do in waking life: the various duties in the commercial printing field. Mel and I are employees of the same co. But we have different duties. I see her for a few minutes in the mornings and chat with her but we don't work together. In the dream it is policy that we all show up early for socializing. Some kind of philosophy the boss has to promote camaraderie between employees. When I lie down with Mel we are on a couch near the high table and the sleeping men. No one changes position after that. Q/ Do you have any sense about yourself (are you just as you are now? what kind of clothes? What colours? A/ I'm the same. I'm wearing my waking-life brown leather jacket. (Mel is wearing her waking-life black leather jacket.) Q/ When Mel "tugs on you" what does she actually do? A/ We are both leaning our forearms on the 'ledge' table thing. Our hands are near each other so she only has to move slightly to grab the sleeve of my jacket near the wrist and pull me toward her. She tugs on my right sleeve with her left hand. Not hard, just enough to let me know she'd like me closer. Like an invitation, and I may move closer if I'd like that too. Q/ When you put your hand under Mel, how do you do that? A/ We are side by side on our backs so I easily slide my right hand under her 'rear end' between her and the couch. This is so she won't think I don't like her advances. I want to put off the kiss on the lips, but I want her to know I'm not putting her off. I don't want her to give up on me. Q/ What does the sofa look like (what colour? what kind? - you see I have a picture of a chaise lounge in the middle of the room!! I bet your sofa is different!!). A/ Your sofa sounds good. Mine is a long, three cushion, greyish-green. A bit dishevelled. It's soft. Easy to sink down into, like the chairs are. Q/ When you say you remember the shipment - what does that mean? Were the eggs shipped to you? Did they arrive with other cargo? If so what was the other cargo? Where were they shipped from? Did they arrive "at work" or did you get them somewhere else? A/ I'm remembering the UPS package that had arrived for me at work, opening it and seeing the eggs I had ordered. Not sure about other cargo and I only know the eggs came from where ever I had ordered them. The main part of the dream-memory of this is picturing the open package. Q/ And why did you call the dream "Mel"? A/ I called the dream Mel because what was happening between us was so "charged" and so be easy to recall the dream by title. If I had titled it The Kiss that would be confusing since I dream a lot about kisses. (I'm probably not supposed to tell you that.) Q/ Are any of your feelings different from feelings in your daytime life? A/ My feelings about same-sex relationships? At the time of the dream, *regarding myself*, a sexual relationship with another woman was out of the question -- nothing I had thought of (I don't think I had thought of it.) Within the dream I knew that I was discovering that that was my desire. My feelings toward Mel? This is hard. I'm going to go back to my feelings towards Mel at the time I had this dream: I was attracted to her in a way. She is so different than I am it kind of drew me to her. Made me want to be close. I liked her very much, and still do. So that is the same. I also felt I had to dispel the prejudices of the other employees. Took on the job of setting an example of loving her so others would see it is safe to love her. (Ahh..., very good question, "an elemental"!) Angela - asking questions of your dream gave me an interesting insight. Before asking I was most struck by your feelings in relation to Mel but while I worked through the questions I'd like answered I found that I was just as interested in any other detail eg where the sofa was!! I still am most struck by my feelings in relation to Mel. They were the most vivid part of this dream. To me it doesn't matter where the furniture is but I truly hope I've given you a half-way decent picture of it. I am thankful it is important to you! Take care, Angela ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ From: Angela Date: Wednesday, February 02, 2000 Dear Mimi, Thank you for being so kind as to work on this dream. Here are my answers to your questions. Q/ When the dream opens, is Mel already in the room as you are entering the room, or does it open with both of you there? What is she doing when you first see her? A/ The dream opens with us both in the room, more precisely, it opens with me noticing Mel is 'over there'. She is standing there alone. I don't know that she is doing anything but being there. Q/ Can you say more about what you meant by "Maybe today will be the day"? A/ In the dream I am thinking here, Maybe today will be the day that Mel will try to kiss me, like it is something I've been hoping will happen for some time. Also, maybe today will be the day I'll find out what it is like to be with another woman in general. Q/ It sounds like Mel is cool and self-assured, while you're feeling anxious and awkward - is this right? Any other words you would use here? A/ Yes, cool and self-assured is a perfect way to describe Mel (thank you). I can tell she is confident in herself. If I am receptive to her advances she will be happy, and if I turn her down, that's okay too. She would not feel stupid or embarrassed for trying. Me? Anxious, scared, uncomfortable about feeling so attracted to her. Uneasy about these new feelings I'm having. Guilty. Confused is certainly in the mix. Q/ When the man "opens his eyes halfway," do you have any reaction, any thoughts about this? A/ Yes. I want to answer Mel's question right away and know I can't if anyone is listening. For a moment I consider that he may really be awake and able to hear me. Then it would only be a matter of time before everyone knew. I quickly tell myself he is most likely asleep, and my desire to answer the question wins even though there is some risk. See, I am so scared Mel will give up on me -- see my hesitation as meaning I don't want to kiss her/be with her/like her, so I take the risk that the man might hear. I make no physical reaction. Q/ How did you feel when you woke up? A/ Quite shocked that I admitted in the dream that I'm "whatever it's called". Startled when I thought of Freud and "wish fulfilment" dreams. Q/ What does "not having any eggs" mean (to the dream Angela)? A/ That I have some medical defect that is making me not really a woman/not complete. ((I had another dream before this one where my daughter's pediatrician was examining me and found I had 800 ovaries (which meant eggs in the dream). I thought this sounded like great news. She didn't. She was very concerned and told me she would have preferred finding at least 900.)) Thank you! Take care always, Angela ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ From: Angela Date: Sun, 06 Feb 2000 Q/ In the dream description you had the statement: "Because nobody knows I'm whatever it's called." You've referred to this statement several times during this question phase. Do either of the terms 'lesbian' or 'bisexual' seem to accurately or fully describe what you are having difficulty describing here? Dear Spiritplum, A/ The short answer is, Yes, both. But that answer is not from within the dream. The dream ego did not know these words. 'Whatever it's called' is what this dream ego came up with in its frustration or maybe ignorance to say she is a person sexually attracted to someone of the same gender. Thanks for the question, Spiritplum. I was hoping you were still here. Dreaming this dream brought back to memory your Lizzy Borden dream. Actually my comments on it. I remember saying something like, "If I were to touch a woman out of compassion and it turned to passion, that would certainly shift my entire world." That, as Klaatu would say, is an out-of-the-box comment. Take care, Angela ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ From: Angela Date: Sun, 06 Feb 2000 Dear Yellow Sail, Thanks for sending your Q's. -- On this day, I go to talk to Mel. What is distinctive about "this" day? A/ This day is not any other day. It's also a day where so far the conditions are right. -- Is Mel her real name in waking life? Or is this a name you're using to protect her identity? If it's a name you've made up, is there any reason you chose that name? (Is it an abbreviation?) A/ It's her real nickname. -- Two other people are here already and look asleep. Are you aware at this stage that these are males? A/ Yes. -- We talk. In the dream, what do you talk about? In the dream, as you talk, what is going on inside you? A/ I don't know what we talked about. Inside me I'm not really listening anyway because I'm noticing I'm attracted to her and this is distracting me. -- We get closer. What is "closer"? How do you "get" it? A/ Closer is nearer than before. I get it through cooperation. I add to it. She adds to it. -- I think, Maybe today will be the day. What is "the day"? A/ The selected piece of time. The chosen piece of time. The piece of time ordained for an event to happen. -- She tugs on me a little. In the dream, what's meant by the verb to "tug"? How does one tug "on" someone? In the dream she tugs on you a little. What is a little tug? What would a big tug be? A/ In the dream to tug means a gentle little pull. It is a signal. To tug on someone is a form of body language that includes touching another that lets someone know they want something. A little tug is a short pull in the form of a question. A big tug is a short pull in the form of a statement. -- We are as close as we can get. How close is as close as "we can get"? Describe it. A/ Close as we can get is an extremely small distance from touching. Any measurable amount closer and it would be called touching. -- We kiss on the face. What part of the face? Who is kissing whom on what part of whose face? A/ Mel is kissing me and I am kissing her on the cheeks, nose, forehead, chin, between the upper lip and nose. -- I'm scared. What is "scared"? A/ Scared is an uncomfortable feeling that is automatically triggered by an event that is seen, heard, felt, or imagined. -- It doesn't feel good, but I'm afraid this will get out of control What doesn't feel good? What's "afraid"? A/ Kissing her on the face doesn t feel good. Afraid in this context is worried or concerned. -- so I open my eyes. In the dream, when did you close your eyes? and say, "Don't you dare kiss me on the lips. "What does it mean to "dare"? What's "you dare"? What's "don't you dare"? A/ I closed my eyes as we began to kiss each other. To dare means to challenge. You dare means another takes a chance. Don't you dare means do not attempt, period. -- She smiles and opens her eyes and says, "Why not?" We lie on the couch. I look around at the other people. The two men look asleep. What is "look"? A/ Look is take in information through the eyes and it also is what is deduced after that information is digested. -- but one opens his eyes halfway and closes them. It's possible he is pretending to be asleep. In the dream, what are the "others" doing? What is "paying attention" ? In the dream, what would they look like if they were paying attention to you? What would they be doing that they're not doing? What would they not be doing that they are doing? A/ The others are standing on some stairs at the far end of the room and talking with each other. Not looking in my direction. Paying attention is using ones senses of hearing and sight to understand what another is doing or saying. If they were paying attention to me they would be looking at me, not talking to each other so they could take in more information about me. They would have their bodies turned in my direction. They would not be facing each other. They would not be talking. -- I answer, "Because nobody knows I'm whatever it's called." What is meant by "nobody"? Who is "nobody"? In the dream, does "nobody" include the dream ego? In the dream, does "nobody knowing" something feel good or bad? A/ Nobody is not anybody. Zero people. Nobody is everyone everyone I work with. Nobody did not include the dream ego. Nobody knowing feels to be safe. Safe is good. -- "Whatever it's called": In the dream, what is "it"? In the dream, what else might "it" be? In the dream, is there a sense that "it" can only mean one thing and one thing only? Or might "it" be something else again or a variety of things? A/ It is the total of the feelings and the cause of the feelings I'm experiencing. In the dream It means only one thing. I don't know what else it could have meant. -- I put my hand under her. We lie there. What is it to "lie"? A/ To lie is to be in the prone or supine position and not moving/moving much. -- I wonder how she knows, What does she know? What is knowing? What is wonder? A/ Mel knows I am the definition of "whatever it s called." Knowing is to have knowledge of. Wonder is to use ones brain in attempt to understand something. -- so I ask, "How do you know? In the dream, what is the dream ego asking by the question "How do you know?" Know what? A/ The dream ego is asking what information do you have that brought you to this accurate conclusion. She knows the feelings I'm experiencing and why I'm having them. -- Is it the way I look What is "look"? or dress, What is meant by the verb to dress? A/ Look is how I appear. To dress means to cover oneself with clothes. -- Mel: "Oh, the other day you mentioned not having any eggs." What are eggs? What is "any"? and so had to order some. What is it "to order"? A/ Eggs are living single cells of the female reproductive system that are half of what is needed to form young of the species. Any is one or more of something but it doesn't matter which one or ones. To order is a request from a person or company something one wants that the other has and is willing to part with usually for money. It is also to demand. -- I picture the shipment What's a shipment I had gotten What is "gotten"? A/ A shipment is an item or items delivered as opposed to retrieved. Gotten is to receive either by being given or by taking. -- and wonder how that is evidence. What is "evidence"? A/ Evidence is pieces of information used to determine if something is true. Okay Yellow Sail. You wore me out! It's a good tired though. What are you going to do with all these definitions? Take care, Angela ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Comments From: "an elemental" Date: Mon, 07 Feb 2000 Angela - your dream touches a chord within me: If this were my dream I'd see it helping me to come to terms with my embarrassment complex. I see it portraying the mechanisms of that complex: I have a secret (it is about some defect I see within myself) AND at the same time I want and hope to be whatever I really am. Those two feelings (the fear and the desire) are at war within me. The result of that war is a failure to act: I become like the gym (something quite beautiful but also musty and stale; something on the outside of life ie a kind of anti-chamber to the real work) and I am like the men (tired and sleeping, not willing to participate in life). AND I am always confronted with situations which call up that double and impossible contradiction within me (Mel). AND when I do fall into these situations I am drawn to them but because of the double and impossible feelings I am emasculated (I cannot respond, but merely lie in an awkward way hoping that others read my desire and not my fear) - indeed my secret defect becomes visible in these very situations. And in the manner in which I relate (hiding my desires) I start yet another guilty secret (would the men tell others this guilty secret?). And so the circle I guess goes faster and faster and each time I move with my desire to end the barrenness, my fear intervenes and increases it. So what can this secret be? What am I hiding? I do not know: it is not known to me. But I do have some clues it seems. I think my desire is to love unconditionally, freely and totally (and here I am NOT thinking of sexual love). I think I have an image of myself that as a woman I must be particularly good at this. But all the time I fear I'm not woman enough, I fear I don't have eggs, I can't give new life through love. Is this my secret: that I can't love unconditionally? I always feel when I get to such waring wants and fears within me that the only safe place to stand is in the centre. And I see I am already near the centre of this area in which I am currently working. I also see that I have the desire to mix different aspects of myself (rather than going with an enlarged image of myself as either capable of total love or incapable and therefore less than a real woman). The signs are auspicious!! Things are going in the right direction. And the men - who knows what they might say if they noticed my "defect": perhaps I can have the grace to allow them to say whatever they will (and then I will deal with the consequences) - perhaps that would allow them to wake up and socialize too!! And the three woman: immediately I saw them I thought of the Three Graces (I don't know any more about them than their name). I suspect they are here to bestow their boons on me if I can let them move. But I am also not at the centre - "I" am aligned with one aspects: what would happen if I loosened my attachment also to that aspect. What would happen if I let go my fear and was just myself: "defect" and all? I'd find the real word for whatever I am. A lovely dream Angela. "an elemental" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ From: Spiritplum Date: Sun, 6 Feb 2000 Hello Angela, this is Spiritplum If this were my dream: I am torn between seeing the dream on the one hand as an expression of repressed sexuality and on the other as a reflection of my desire to open up to something dark and loving and different within myself. Am I attracted to Mel and want to be with her and experience her or does her image in this dream open up something in me that has been in the dark and hidden away because it is so different from the other, familiar part of me that I show to the world? She is rough, she is the opposite color of me, she is calm and cool when I am anxious and unsure, she is not attractive like I am, is not as accepted by others as I am -- at least this is the sense I get in the dream. The old men are sleeping or so it appears and I do really want to be with this woman and as long as they are sleeping it is safe. It will not be safe for me to be with her in this way if the others knew about it. I must remain cautious and I ask her not to kiss me, I cannot let the others see how I really feel about this woman and how much I really want to do this. I lay down with her on the couch but I still must remain cautious. I look at the old guy and I imagine that he is watching me and just pretending to be asleep. But yet I still want Mel to know how much I really do want to be here with her and I place my hand under her where no one can see but which has an unmistakable message: I really do want to continue this. I can't think of the word I want to say in the dream that describes me here but now several go through my mind: lover of things different, cavorter of things dark and quiet, kisser of the forbidden fruit, woman who loves herself and wants to mate and bring forth new life with this dark mate. Of course! A new life, a new creation that is the offspring of both of us. A life that is the child of all of 'me'. New life begins with an egg and I cannot bring forth this new being without eggs and she knows how to provide them. What's more: she wants to be with me, maybe she's always been with me, off a little in the distance, waiting, quiet, in the shadows... Thank you very much for this dream Angela, sexual images seem so powerful and personal and I admire and respect your confidence in our group to share this dream. Peace, Spiritplum ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ From: Klaatu Date: Mon, 07 Feb 2000 Hi, Angela. This is an interesting dream to work with--being a man, I have to stretch to try to make it mine. I hope something I see here relates to your own experience in some way. If this were my dream, I'd see that the part of me that manages my "work" (communication?) has ordered me and the parts of me I work with to socialize. The boss part of me seems to think that I and the other work-oriented parts of me need to get to know one another better, so we can be more productive. I see a part of me I name Mel. "Mel" is an androgynous name, and it reminds me of "melt" and "meld." Mel's sexual orientation is ambiguous. She is different from me and the other co-worker parts of me, and I want to demonstrate acceptance. More than that, I'm attracted to her. The Mel part of me seems attracted to me, too. We draw close to each other and display our affection. But I try to keep my feelings for Mel a secret. Mel is nurturing and care-giving, but there are those here who are so different from this that it is too dangerous to even describe them. Also, I need to be more comfortable with the fact that I'm attracted to this Mel part of me. Mel tells me she has identified me by the fact that I have a defect, a lack of feminine creativity. I have ordered more, and to make myself a whole woman, I must take it in. To me, this dream seems to be about self-exploration, about learning about myself, even parts of myself I hadn't recognized until now, because they seemed so different from what I conventionally regarded as "me." It's interesting that the boss part of me ordered this. I don't seem very enthused about getting to know all the parts of me, until I see Mel. Maybe if I get to know all these other seemingly drab, boring parts of me, I'll find some other surprises. This Mel part of me seems to have something to do with my feminine creativity, with becoming a complete woman, maybe with balancing the male and female aspects of myself. She seems powerful and confident--definitely a part of myself I should get to know better. -- Klaatu ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ From: Mimi Date: Mon, 7 Feb 2000 Hi Angela. If "Mel" were my dream... My first thought on waking from this dream is: What if I really do have latent lesbian or bisexual tendencies? This seems shocking to me. But I don't feel it's true, so the dream must have this happen in order to get my attention to focus on some very important issue. I am aware of Jung's (and others') view that when I feel an intense desire for someone, it may be because they display qualities that I wish I had, qualities that I may need to develop in myself instead of seeking them in someone else. So maybe it is Mel's way of being cool, confident, and self-assured, her difference, her mystique, that I would like to develop in myself. But this is an overall impression from the dream, and I really prefer to take a dream one step, one detail, at a time, and see where it takes me. So. I start out in a room where all the parts of myself gather in preparation for work, that is, for doing my inner work on whatever issue this is about. My inner "boss" wants me/us to do this (or I/we might decline). In this place some masculine parts of me may be asleep, or pretending to be asleep. This could mean that they are not aware of this issue, or unwilling to see or change anything. Or maybe they represent a part of me that relies on reason for all my decisions, and I put them to sleep in this dream to test out a different way. But the fact that I do have them in this room and do think they may peek, could be saying that I realize any decisions I make on grounds other than reason will still have to pass my "reasonableness" test. (Unless I become a multiple personality!) I go talk to Mel, this part of me that is cool, confident, etc. I'm getting closer to her - to being like her. I feel this part tugging on me, drawing me closer yet. Maybe this is a part of me that doesn't act primarily through reason, but rather through feeling, a feminine way of making decisions. Maybe today will be the day - the day I decide to go with my feelings? It's scary, and doesn't feel good, but I don't want to stop it either. Kissing each other on the face could have to do with facing the issue, or not hiding my face. "Don't you dare kiss me on the lips" could indicate that I am not yet ready to speak out about this new way. Maybe I'd like to keep it hidden until I feel more comfortable with it. But the Mel part says "Why not?" - why am I afraid to speak my truth, my feelings? I had started out with a barrier between Mel and me, the table. This makes me think of "laying my cards on the table" - showing my hand. And then we lie on the couch. In my dreams, a couch often means a psychiatrist's couch - that is, it represents efforts to know my inner self better. And this is where one of the men opens his eyes halfway - so maybe I need to look at this with my thinking mind, open up my thinking to this new possibility in me, reason it out like a psychiatrist would. Because if I can understand it better it may become more acceptable to my reasonable self. I notice here that the other women in the room are not paying attention - maybe because they already understand this feminine need to act on feelings. Also, they are standing on the stairs, so may be able to deal with this on a higher level. It does seem that on the couch I am trying to understand the new possibility in myself - "whatever it's called." I'm trying to figure out how the Mel part knows things. This sounds like intuition, as opposed to reason. And the Mel part says she knows because I ordered eggs - in other words, I sensed something lacking in myself, the seeds of new life, and took steps to "fix" this. This is evidence that I am ready to start incorporating my Mel self in my life. Perhaps I will start with some symbolic act, some ritual of initiation, something that will honor my feelings and intuition - in a reasonable way of course! Angela - thanks for sharing this dream. I really enjoyed reading all your responses to questions and reading the others' comments - and loved making it my own. It sure did hit on *my* issues... Mimi ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ From: Spirit Walker Date: Mon, 7 Feb 2000 Angela, If this were my dream...... I am in the room where we all are before we become left brain and analytical. I am in the feeling, passion, intuition room. Mel is there. We are sexually attracted to each other. I hope today will be today she makes the first move. We kiss, but I'm afraid I will lose control. I look around and see two men sleeping. One opens his eyes. They might see us ! I am excited at being caught, and at the same time, they (my rational side) will protect me from losing control, so it's safe. I want to go further with Mel, so we do subtle things. I ask Mel how she knows that I am attracted to her, that I am lesbian or bisexual. She tells me that it is because I announced that I don't have any eggs - so she knew that I have male/lesbian energy. (PS I am not lesbian. I am grateful for working with this dream because it reconnects me to the excitement and beauty of sexual attraction, acting on it-pleasure that is not stopped by the male, analytical, judgmental side - but in this case provides enough braking to make it safe. I would go back into the dream and re-dream it to work through the tensions, or to clarify them. In my re-dream I would tell Mel that I needed a private place to explore our relationship.) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ From: Yellow Sail Date: Fri, 11 Feb 2000 Hi Angela and fellow dreamers. Thanks for this dream Angela. Here's if it were my dream: In my dream, I'm being nudged to start maybe actual work but definitely inner work in a different way. I'm being invited to get more in touch with my 'sordid' reality. Because my whole self involves every single part of me. On this day, I go to talk to Mel. In my dream, I'm really struck that Mel spells very like "me". So on this day, I go to talk with me. Now there are still other aspects of myself about the place too, some of them looking tired and dopey, maybe half looking. This black part of me and my dream ego talk. We get closer. I think, Maybe today will be the day. Maybe today will be the day that I can connect with this black part of me. The part of me that I have come up close to today represents a free part of myself, a less conventional part of myself. A free spirit. The part of me who is true to who she is. The part of me who goes with the flow. She is a free part of myself because she's not worried by what others think of her. She is in touch with her passion. She will not be swayed from connecting with me or with others by the gallery's laughter or disapproval. She tugs on me a little. Mel is suggesting we integrate a bit more. We are as close as we can get. Nice stuff this. The inside coming out. We kiss on the face. But, I'm scared and it doesn't feel good, kissing this black part of me. My sense is it doesn't feel good&yet. But it might never feel good. My sense is it will get better or should get better. But what is my basis for this belief? Maybe I need to attend to that feeling that it does not feel good. Period. And maybe it won't feel good, ever. Maybe this dream is not about lesbianism or bisexuality at all. Even the kissing on the face didn't feel good. And I'm afraid this will get out of control so I open my eyes and say, "Don't you dare kiss me on the lips." She smiles and opens her eyes and says, "Why not?" Mel who represents this vital, free, passionate, daring aspect of myself asks 'why not?' The aspect of myself that she represents is at peace. She is not offended. She doesn't take my rejection personally. She seeks the objective truth. We lie on the couch. I'm struck that lie can also mean untruth. Maybe I'm being untruthful by looking around at the other people, anxious by what they see or judge rather than being true to myself regardless of other people's views. The two men look asleep but one opens his eyes halfway and closes them. It's possible he is pretending to be asleep. Equally, I'm pretending, trying to contain this encounter with the black, passionate part of me. The others don't look like they are paying attention to us. I answer, "Because nobody knows I'm whatever it's called." In my dream, while this may also be about bisexuality or lesbianism or sexual ambiguity, it need not be that or only be that. In fact, in my dream, I suspect the deeper meaner might be something more like "lonely" or "afraid" or cocooned from that passionate, free part of me. OK I don't want to kiss the part of me Mel represents but I put my hand under her. Maybe I'm trying to contain her or pat her on the bottom like you would a child. We lie there. And there's that lie word again. I wonder how she knows. But what do I think she knows? No one beyond myself knows me better than myself. I cannot give anyone else the power to determine decisions, even decisions about myself. That power belongs to me. But I nevertheless ask her "How do you know? Is it the way I look, or dress, or what?" But Mel, representing a vital hidden, free and true-to-self part of me says: "Oh, the other day you mentioned not having any eggs and so had to order some." In my dream, I'm saddened that my sense of myself is of somehow being less than fully female. I picture the shipment I had gotten and wonder how that is evidence. But evidence of what? Thanks for sharing this dream, Angela Peace, Yellow Sail ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Dreamer's Responses to Comments From: Angela Date: Mon, 07 Feb 2000 Dear "an elemental," Spiritplum, Klaatu, Mimi I want each of you to know... I don't even know how to express this... I want all of you to know I have read your comments on this dream, Mel, and I am anxious to respond in great detail to each of you individually. This will take a couple of days. (As you know, Yellow Sail wore me out re-writing the dictionary. --He knows I'm just kidding, right? Luv ya Yellow Sail.) My immediate reaction to what you all have said so far is to know I am blessed to have you all as partners on this journey of discovery. I feel like I've placed my dream in the arms of angels. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. -- Okay, enough mush. It just slipped out. But I mean it! Take care, Angela ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ From: Angela Date: Tue, 15 Feb 2000 Dear "an elemental," Spiritplum, Klaatu, Mimi, Spirit Walker, Yellow Sail, Where do I start? I read your comments on this dream knowing they are Yours but as I read, I fall into them and it is as if they are mine. I'm telling you, putting this dream into your hands was the best way I could possibly have honored this dream!!! Sends chills! For the record, I have been deeply touched and I honor you all for your work. And I've got to tell you what it's been like at work while working on this dream. Starting just two weeks ago, three days after this dream became the focus dream here, I began filling in in another position and I work with Mel for five hours a day. I find myself standing a little nearer than normal. I look at her, and consciously for the first time, notice what about her I'd like to nurture in myself. Just today I was headed in the same direction as she was, coincidentally (or not) needed to make the same turns around some equipment. She turned and said, "Are you following me?" I said no, but in my head I heard the song, "Me, and my shadow, strolling down the avenue..." I chuckled inside. To Spiritplum, ------------- First you speak of being torn between this dream being an expression of repressed sexuality and a reflection of desire to open up to something dark and loving and different within myself. It is because I wasn't torn, because is all I saw this dream expressing was repressed sexual desire, is why I gave this dream to you. I knew there was more, but because of the shock of it all, I couldn't find anything else on my own. I loved following your thought process as I read your comments. When you wrote, "Of course! A new life, a new creation that is the offspring of both of us," I felt the same 'aha' your exclamation point seemed to be expressing. I see this creation of new life as meaning the integration of parts of my ego and alter ego/shadow. The new life would be me. A changed me. (My dreams, and even yours, have been showing me this happening for a long time.) You even mention that the dream image of Mel is quite my self's opposite. That plus, "in the dark and hidden away," and "waiting quiet in the shadows." and, "[Mel] is not as accepted by others..." That's the stuff of our Shadow -- Things not accepted and so repressed. The most enlightening point you made, and that I'm very thankful for, is, "What's more: she *wants* to be with me..." This aspect of my shadow wants to be with me (emphasis on 'wants' and 'with'). Not be me, or take me over, but be with me. That sounds like such a gentle, honest and caring way for my unconscious to treat me. Not a demand or hostile take over. Much more acceptable this way. I like that. It's not so scary anymore. I wouldn't have noticed this without you. My conclusion to what you say is, Yes, I am looking forward to becoming a little more like Mel. As you say, "I really do want to continue this." (I wish I could explain here how I have.) I'm glad you are still in this cart. To "an elemental", ---------------- Does this dream really touch a chord within you? While reading what you wrote, I found your words touched a chord within me. I find myself almost bursting with anticipation when I read your opening and closing together. "I want and hope to be whatever I really am." and, "What would happen if I let go my fears and was just myself: defect and all?" and "I'd find the real word for whatever I am." In those words I see 1) a goal, 2) a way to achieve it, and 3) the reward for working toward it. I'd find the real word for whatever I am. That last sentence is poetry. I know you stayed focused on the non-sexual meaning of this dream. That is what I needed help with. "Hiding my desires" "hoping that others read my desires." For me this reminds me of the self sabotage I'm so good at. Because of not expressing my desires, because of hoping others will know them, I've shot myself in the foot on many occasions. This brings to mind "The Artist's Way," by Julia Cameron. (I think you would like it if you haven't done it already. It's a book that is actually a 10 week 'course'. It made me aware of my internal censor and how harmful it can be.) Another thought of yours that I will give attention to is, "I think my desire is to love unconditionally, freely and totally (and here I am NOT thinking of sexual love)." Also, "Is this my secret: that I can't love unconditionally?" This made me aware my desire is to love myself unconditionally and freely, and it has been my secret--It's been a secret to me. I'm still a little stuck here because I can't imagine being able to do this. At least I'm going to admit it does sound a healthy thing to do. I wrote to you in an answer to a question, "I wish I could draw you a picture." Your words have drawn a bigger picture of what this dream may mean for me. To Klaatu, --------- May I first say, thank you for stretching. The minute I read, "The boss part of me..." I had an aha. I never thought of having a boss part. It's nice to know I do. I really would be much more productive in life, as you say, if the different parts of me got to know each other better. I've know for some time now that there are these other parts. I'm glad the boss part knows what is good for me as a whole and requires me to socialize with the others. I would not / do not on my own. As you noticed, in this dream, I am put in a room by the boss and if I am to communicate at all, it is with Mel; the most different part, for the others are asleep for now. Your words, "I want to demonstrate acceptance of this different part of me," reminds me that I do want to. This I am saying only now, after reading your comments and many weeks after this dream. Klaatu, I want you to know, right now as I write this, I can really feel that I want to accept this different part of me. It feels really good. I am getting more comfortable with the fact that I'm attracted to her (this different part). I feel better. "To me this dream seems to be about self-exploration, about learning about myself, even parts of myself I hadn't recognized until now, because they seem so different from what I conventionally regarded as "me." .... Maybe if I get to know all these other parts.... I ll find other surprises. This dream has made me do a lot of "self-exploration." I've learned some new things about myself that I hadn't recognized until now because your right, they have always been there but because they seemed so different, without even realizing it, I rejected them. I'm glad the boss ordered this socialization time. I wonder if I will find some other surprises. Thank you for noticing this in the dream. To Mimi ------- Inner work. I find it very interesting that you notice the dream is set in a room where "we gather in preparation for work." If I apply your comments to my life, I see this dream as preparing me for the inner work to come. Like this dream is practice for, as opposed to being the work. (This has more meaning than you know being that this dream was given to me mid-December, and I have had a growth spurt, so to speak, of inner work since then.) This inner work has to do with recognizing, understanding and accepting certain feelings. I usually see going with my feelings as scary, even very wrong. Maybe the sleeping men/reason are there as a security blanket and reminder to check in with reasonableness, but reasonableness (thinking) should give feeling its say. Well, it did, and now I'm thinking about it. You saw the table as a barrier. For me this is a barrier between the me I know and what Mel represents to me/the qualities I wish I had and/or, even literally, lesbian or bisexual tendencies within me. Yes, this dream s literal layer is relevant to me. You noted, "'Don't you dare kiss me on the lips' could indicate that I am not yet ready to speak out about this...". At the time of the dream I was not. (I guess pretending to be asleep about it is a good way to describe it.) Since the dream I have, but am not yet comfortable, in the dream and in waking life, with 'this'. (I still can't apply the name.) With the connection you made between the couch and a psychiatrist's couch and the need to look at this with my thinking mind shows me that although I acknowledged feelings that are new (the accepting of them is new), there is still work to be done about them. You write, ... "if I can better understand [these feelings] it may become more acceptable to my reasonable self." I hope this is true. Mimi, if this dream really did hit on your issues, whatever they may be, I wish you all the best in honoring your feelings and intuition about them. As for me, some ritual of initiation isn't something I can consider. Did you notice that in your interpretation of this dream you spoke of all 'four windows'? That s so cool. This says to me you are well balanced. To Spirit Walker ---------------- You went right for the literal meaning in this dream. This is what I was so scared of when I woke from the dream. Denied it. Tried not to think about it. Knew I'd never share this dream. Pretended I never had it. Tried to convince myself this dream had no literal meaning whatsoever. It is hard to consider a meaning like this, even in the privacy of the space between my own ears. But, even with all the resistance I was putting up, something drew me to offer this dream here. Thank you for offering the literal meaning as a valid one, with no condemnation. What else can I say? I'm glad you saw beauty in it. And welcome. To Yellow Sail, -------------- Evidence of what? May I borrow your words and thoughts and see where it goes? Are you hitting me with something hard? That's okay, it's just not my favorite thing to do. My sordid reality. "I'm being invited to get more in touch with my 'sordid' reality." I hope the quote marks mean this reality is only sordid to me and not the true meaning of sordid. Like compared to the rest of who I am it is sordid, but really not that awful. Another piece of evidence that leads me to believe this is the case is you describe Mel (me) as a free part of myself, a free spirit, not worried by what others think, in touch with her passion, vital, daring, at peace... All these things, although not like the me I know, are not bad sordid qualities. Also, whoever is the giver of dreams would not nudge me to integrate parts of myself that were so bad. So I'm going to go with that meaning. I guess another thing I don't want to do is look around this room for other aspects of myself, "some of them looking tired and dopey, maybe half looking." I think here also of the dirtiness of the room, the used furniture. I'd rather not admit those could be aspects of myself. "Maybe this dream is not about lesbianism or bisexuality at all. Even the kissing on the face didn't feel good."... "Maybe I need to attend to that feeling that it does not feel good. Period." Okay, I can do this. Maybe this is a warning that I just think I'm attracted to these qualities but if I actually act on it, even if it does feel good, it won't be worth the consequences of integrating 'sordid' things. "She tugs on me a little. Mel is suggesting we integrate a bit more. Nice stuff this." This is my favorite sentence. Maybe this is what I should do. Integrate her characteristics, but only a bit. ... "I suspect the deeper meaning might be something more like 'lonely' or 'afraid' or cocooned from that passionate, free part of me." Humm. I probably am, but I think it is appropriate to cocoon myself from the free part of me. Yes, integrate, but just a bit. This sounds appropriate. So, evidence of what? Evidence that I am not whole yet. More work to do here. (Of course there always is) Yellow Sail, I very much appreciate this slightly harder look at this dream. You keep me from being so insistant. To All, (if you have read this far), The words that tie, I think, all your interpretations of this dream together are: Mel/ melt, meld, me, merge, new creation, integrate (a bit), incorporate. That's the part that feels the same. Yet all the interpretations actually were all quite different. Thank you all again. I have been working hard on this dream myself. I saw evidence of that in a dream I had last night. It basically was a scary dream, and in it I worried someone would find my dream, Mel, and all the work done on it by [the group]. At one point I collected all my notebooks and was about to put them in a drawer when I thought, "I can't just stuff this in a drawer!" I believe a meaning for this dream could be that this dream and all your work on it is very precious to me. And, although this Internet is not a private place, giving this dream to you feels safe to me. The Electric Dreams community started as a dream group whose members originally met on the Usenet newsgroup alt.dreams in early 1994. The group formed to see if they could deepen the responses to dreams via e-mail, as the alt.dreams format seemed to get stuck at more superficial levels of interaction. The original Electric Dreams group sent dreams in to an editor who compiled them and send them out with any comments from previous dreams every couple of weeks. For a few months this was fun and created a core community, but over time people wanted to share more recent dreams and discuss them more quickly. I started the DreamCircle (1995) as a way to speed up the dream/comment time for the Electric Dreams community. We tried some round robins and other methods, then used the CC: field to create the feel of a mail list. That was Jay Vinton's suggestion. Since it went out in spokes, but turned, I named it the DreamWheel. I set up a mail list (listserv/majordomo) in 1996 through IGC, the Institute for Global Communications. We used a variation on a technique developed by John Herbert, Ph.D. for dream sharing on AOL SeniorNet bulletin boards. The technique the wheel uses now is very similar to John's, though we are often looser with its application and tend to exaggerate the question period. John feels this makes it harder for other in the group to give "...if this were my dream." comments. But we have found that people really, really, *like* to answer the questions and get that kind of attention for parts of the psyche so often neglected. To make the Wheel acceptable to the Association for the Study of Dreams, Sarah Richards implemented a change from "If this were my dream..." to "In my respondent dream..." to avoid the issues with the techniques being claimed by Montague Ullman. It was reported that Ullman was unhappy that John Herbert claimed to be using his technique, as it didn't include many elements of the original process, some of which Ullman felt were essential, such as the emotional work. Still, "If this were my dream..." is a phrase so many people use, and though perhaps differently, it immediately signals to many the general idea of what's happening. John and I both prefer to take this one step further and directly or indirectly say "In my dream..." to continue the notion that we are not giving the dreamer advice and taking our own personal journey. Sometimes "if this were my dream..." gets unconsciously translated into "If I were you..." rather than "When I pretend it really is *my* dream and about *my* life." which was the intention we want to get at. However, I am also looser about group process and only *suggest* this way when I moderate groups. I prefer new participants at least try it out. Anyway, to further make the DreamWheel acceptable to ASD, Jayne Gackenbach wrote up a questionnaire that was given out at the end of each series of dreams. We used to do five or six dreams, then call it quits, unsubscribe everyone and start over. This make people actively take a part in staying with the Wheel, and make it a more intimate group. At the end of each series the questionnaire would be given out to make sure the moderator had not become a tyrant and everyone was heard if the process didn't allow for various important expressions or ideas. But eventually the Wheel became permanent or continuous, and we accepted lurkers like the elders that hang out at the edge of a village, rarely participating unless they see something troubling. Since the Wheel was continual, it became hard to know when to put out the questionnaire. I still would like to include it as an option once every month or two instead of our haphazard samplings. We often took turns being moderators in the beginning, but it takes a lot more work than you might imagine, so finally I was the only one left from the original group. Eventually Chris Hicks volunteered during one of our madhouse-DreamWheel fests. Sometimes we would have several wheels and sub-wheels going at the same time. Chris was very attentive and eventually moderated the main wheel for a year or so. We have had about three other moderators since then, and I fill in the gaps. Now the two groups have some of the finest moderators the wheel has every had, Kathy Turner for the main DreamWheel and Phyllis Howing for eDreams. Also, participants have gone on to create their own DreamWheels and some in other venues and languages. Roger Ripert, for example, has a IRC gathering on the first thrusday of each month for people who speak French. Visitors, like Jay Belbo have visited the groups and initiated special dreamwork projects. Once a year, we get the permission of one of the groups to publish the transcripts. The intention is for others to see the process and be able to learn and use it themselves. Here are a few other places where the story is told differently: Wilkerson, Richard (1999). Feel free to copy these process files and/or modify them for your own groups. We also recommend developing an ethics statement and of course, visiting and trying our DreamWheel or eDreams dream sharing groups online. Below is a slightly edited version of Kathy Turner's DreamWheel instructions. The names and titles and email addresses have been changed. If you are interested in joining a dream group, please send your request to Kathy Turner kathyturner@bigpond.com or Richard Wilkerson rcwilk@dreamgate.com Please read "A Brief History of the DreamWheel" for more information and about how the groups were formed, as well as the early experimenters and research upon which these groups have been developed. Briefly, the group works by going through different phases. Everyone agrees to the process and ethics of the group, and sends in dreams to the moderator or facilitator. The moderator orders the dreams and creates and index or table of contents. The group works on one dream at a time. The moderator picks the dream and sends out a Question Phase note to the group and the group responds with clarification questions only. The dreamer may or may not reply. Then the group sends in comments, taking the dream as their own. Again the dreamer may or may not reply and some closure may be necessary, and sometimes a questionnaire is sent to check on how the process is working. Note that the moderator includes at the beginning of each phase [Questions & Comments Phase] some of the following information: the table of contents, or who-is-next list, the instructions for the phase, the dream itself and information on how to leave the list if needed. The moderator can also add to the success of the group by careful attention to the process and making supporting and non-interpretive or non- judgemental comments. This creates group cohesion. Here is a summary of the process: 1. Establish a mail list and a moderator for the group, invite members and give out the ethics statement. Members may also wish or be encouraged to use pen names or sign up anonymously. 2. Moderator asks members to send in dreams to the moderator with pen names and titles. These dreams are collected and used over a month or two, so they need to be organized and kept together. The moderator creates a Dream List, a table of contents showing whose dream is up for discussion next. Note that Kathy Turner also makes short notes on the Dream List. This helps people know what dream is being worked on, what dreams were recently being discussed and may still be in discussion and which dreams are coming up for discussion. 3. Moderator picks the first dream and sends out a QUESTION PHASE instruction page, which includes the dream list, the instructions, the dream, subscription information and friendly notes that may refer to the group and the group's process, other dreams and other news the moderator may wish to interject. 4. The group sends in questions to the dreamer and the dreamer may or may not reply. It is up to the moderator when to move from the question phase to the comments phase. Generally the dreamer will send replies and this makes it clear when to move on. 5. Moderator sends out COMMENT PHASE instructions page. Again, it includes the dream list, the instructions, the dream, subscription information and friendly notes that may refer to the group and the group's process, other dreams and other news the moderator may wish to interject. 6. The group sends in comments, taking the dream as if it were their own, and the dreamer may or many not reply. It is up to the moderator when to send in some closing remarks and move on to the next dreams. Usually the dreamer will send back comments and this is the place to end the process. Sometimes conversations may occur as well for sometime. Generally we have found that after the dreamer replies to comments, the group is ready and confortable moving on to another dream, though overlapping discussion may still occur. Due to the nature of mail lists, multiple processes and discussions may occur without too much disruption. 7. If someone sends in comments or questions that fall outside the instructions, the variance tolerance is up to the moderator. Some moderators encourage and enjoy going beyond the instructions, while others like to make sure people are aware of the basic processes before doing creative dreamwork. A gentle reminder of the process, like sending the instructions again or pieces of them to the whole group such as "Please keep all questions during the question phase to description clarification only." is usually enough to bring the group back onto track. Again, some moderators may wish to open up the question phase to include other kinds of questions, or add an additional question phase after the comment phase. If a group member has been kindly warned but persists, several approaches are possible. The first is to remind commenter that the dream interpretations they are making need to be in the spirit of as if it were their own dream. All questions and comments may help the dreamer, but are considered relating to the commenter. Another approach is to resend the ethics statement into the list. Finally, the moderator has the authority to remove or unsubscribe members from the group. They are free to do so as they wish, either by vote or by temporary authority assigned to them as moderator. In the six years of online dreamgroups I have participated in, this has never been an issue and I can't recall this every happening. Below are sample files for the Question and Comment phases. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++ INTRODUCTION AND QUESTION PHASE Hello to everyone on the DreamWheel! Thanks for all the comments on Marty' dream, I found them insightful and was moved by them myself. So now the Wheel keeps spinning onto John's dream:: "Flying Spiders" Below is the schedule and the instructions for this phase and then the dream. Please glance over the instructions then scroll down to the dream, read it and then send in questions to the DreamWheel (dreamwheel@dreamgate.com). Kathy Schedule Dream: by Lacy - focus finished but still open Dream: "The Gravity Well" by Kevin - focus finished but still open Dream: "With Mr C., " by Carry - focus finished but still open Dream: "Almond Revenge" by Marty - focus finished but still open Dream: "Flying Spiders" by John - FOCUS DREAM Dream: "Diamond Shifting" by Magdelana Dream: by Emmy (to be announced) Dream: by Rockmany Dream: by Sussieq Dream: "Getting off " by Claude Dream: " Wedding Day" by Mary Instructions: Asking questions of the dreamer In this phase of the process you may ask the dreamer questions about the dream that may clarify the images of the dream. Do not ask questions that call for interpretations or that ask for material outside of the dream itself. The aim is to get to know the dream well AND also to allow for the maximum number of possible meanings being generated. Clarifying Questions: Example: If this were the DREAM: "He turned around and grabbed Bill's jacket away from me." You can ask: 1. Questions about the details of any aspect of the dream AS they appeared IN the dream, for example: (feeling details) How did you feel (in the dream) when he grabbed Bill's jacket? (action details) Can you describe exactly how he grabbed Bill's jacket (eg where was he in relation to you; what movement did he make; what movement did you make)? (content detail) What kind of jacket was it? How were you holding the jacket? Where were you when he grabbed the jacket? 2. Questions about how any "real" people or places in the dream differed from their "real" presentation in daytime life, for example: (who/what was recognisable) Who is the "he" that grabbed the jacket? Do you know him? Is the place where this happened to you recognisable? (how does the "familiar differ) Was Bill's jacket the same in the dream as in your daytime life? If not, how was it different in the dream? 3. Questions about what a person/object/action etc means for the dream ego. You can ask it something like: "What would the dream (plus name) have thought of the person/object/action etc". This makes sure that the emphasis remains on the dream and the dream ego rather than switching it to the daytime ego (who may have very different views upon the matter!). Please DON'T ask interpretation questions or questions about material OUTSIDE of the dream itself. For example AVOID questions like: Why do you think he grabbed your jacket? (though you might ask if any reasons went through your head during the dream.) Did you know that Jackets represent symbols of appearance issues? Do you often have men grabbing your clothes in dreams? What does standing behind someone mean to you? Dreamers in reply If and when you reply to the questions, do so only to clarify the dream. Try to avoid interpretations at this point. If it is not clear from the dream how to answer a question, simply say it was not clear. Send questions to the dreamer to via the whole group at dreamwheel@dreamgate.com John's Dream: Flying Spiders/ 5.12.98 I walked into my house and there were things flying all around. At first I thought they were bats, but I saw a lot of spiderwebs and decided they were spiders. I went into the kitchen to get away and then saw out my window that all the trees had cobwebs as well. It was clear to me that the spiders had somehow mutated, learned how to fly and were now going to wrap the world in a big web. I wondered what it would like to become a spider. __ If anyone would like to unsubscribe from the DreamWheel... You don't have to have asked a question to comment and your comment doesn't have to pick up all John's dream images - just comment on anything that would mean something to you, if it had been your dream. What you have to say may just unlock some meaning for John and it may help you too. Have a go!! Below is the schedule and the instructions for this phase and then the dream. Please glance over the instruction then scroll down to the dream, read it and then send in comments to the dreamwheel (dreamwheel@dreamgate.com). Kathy Schedule Dream: by Lacy - focus finished but still open Dream: "The Gravity Well" by Kevin - focus finished but still open Dream: "With Mr C., " by Carry - focus finished but still open Dream: "Almond Revenge" by Marty - focus finished but still open Dream: "Flying Spiders" by John - FOCUS DREAM Dream: "Diamond Shifting" by Magdelana Dream: by Emmy (to be announced) Dream: by Rockmany Dream: by Sussieq Dream: "Getting off " by Claude Dream: " Wedding Day" by Mary Comment instructions In this part of the process, you may comment on the dream. While you are welcome to make any comments you wish, what we are teaching in this group is non-defensive style developed by John Herbert (Montague Ullman stage II variation) modified for email. This segment is the one in which each group member takes the dream as if it were his or her own and shares feelings and thoughts about the dream and what it might mean in each members life situation. 1. You can comment on what ANY aspect of the dream means FOR YOU: a. The feelings YOU have about any aspect of the dream or about the whole dream. b. The metaphorical or symbolic meanings FOR YOU of any actions or images in the dream. c. The relationship between any dream images and events and what that relationship means FOR YOU. d. The relationship between all dream images and events as YOU see them (you can change the order of events and images and present them in the way you feel makes most sense to YOU). 2. In your comments make the dream your own: a. At the beginning of all comment files or e-mail use something like : "If this were my dream..." This sets up the general subjective attitude and works as a reminder to the commentators that they are not telling the dreamer what they think the dream means for the dreamer, but rather what the dream might mean for themselves if they had had that dream. b. To further this relationship to the dream write the commentary as if you were talking about your OWN dream happening NOW (use the first person singular and also present tense) in your commentary: EXAMPLE: Dream: "I'm looking at my mother walking down a long hall towards an open window." I might comment "In MY dream the nurturing mother has found a new way to escape ME." In my comment, it is "my mother", "my hallway" and "my dream". This may or may not provide insight to the initial dreamer, but its surprising how often this non- defensive approach does lead to new insights for both the dreamer and the commentator. 3. Send your comments in to the whole group. dream-on@lists.best.com Dreamer's response At the end of the comment phase the dream is returned to its source and the dreamer can reply. The type of reply is entirely up to the dreamer - but some response helps both the commentators and the dreamer. It provides closure for the commentators and helps the dreamer to make what was learned in the process more firmly his/her own. 1. Immediate response: The dreamer gives some IMMEDIATE response. a. The dreamer can indicate what possible new ways of thinking or acting or feeling were opened up by the process of answering the clarifying questions and of reading the comments from others. b. The dreamer may like to indicate what life context the dream seems to be addressing and whether the DreamWheel process revealed new aspects of that context. c. The dreamer may just wish to thank the commentators. 2. Later Response The dreamer can do further work on the dream. He/she may gain new insights connected with their dream: a. through other dreams (which are either consciously incubated or which just arise) b. through insights from the initial DreamWheel process which come after the focus period c. through some new awareness of their life context The dreamer can then share their insights with others on the DreamWheel AT ANY TIME. Such sharing can help build the dream group as a group. It can also teach us all much more about the interplay of dreams and our daytime lives. The Electric Dreams Community, March 2000 " "¥" "§" "¥" "§" "¥" "§" "¥" "§" "¥" "§" "¥" "§" "¥" "¥" " Madame Aionia's Astrological Dreaming Series: Dreaming Through the Houses: 4th House " "¥" "§" "¥" "§" "¥" "§" "¥" "§" "¥" "§" "¥" "§" "¥" "¥" " Have you ever wondered how dreams and astrology are connected? There are many ways we can connect dreams to astrology, and many don't require that you know all about your Natal Chart. In this column we will be exploring the symbolic rather than predictive aspects of astrology. Symbolic astrology attempts to use the images of astrological to give meaning to one's life and empower choices rather than predict paths. We do this by imaginal overlay. In this process we impleach, (poetically interweave) dream, image, feeling, life and symbol in a way to evoke a felt sense of the dream's imagery and its position in our life. This year we are focusing each month on a different House. The inner circle of the Natal or Birth Chart is divided into 12 distinct regions know as Houses. They relate to everyday activates. One will be about physical appearances and temperament, while another relates to possessions, for example. Planets and signs fall within these Houses and influence the areas of focus. We will be watching for images of planets, signs and other celestial events and hopefully begin to see the emergence of an astrological chart that dips into birth charts, dreams, and our waking life. This month we are focusing on the Fourth House, which corresponds to Cancer and the Moon, is the domain of childhood, origin, family and roots. Being at the base of the astrological chart, it represents the base of the individual her/himself both literally and figuratively. Literally we can talk about the kind of dream houses we come from, and figuratively in terms of issue of security and safety. Think for a moment about the emotional atmosphere that surrounded you before you were old enough to make choices about this. If you have a Jungian bent, this would be the area of the personal unconscious, or behaviorally speaking, the areas of early conditioning. The Garden Grandchild I am sitting in a rocking chair in my garden, rocking, knitting and watching a small child who seems to me as well. The child plays by the flower garden chasing butterflies and I think to myself how the child lives in a vast world barely recognized by adults, yet somehow very similar to my own. A parent shouts from the house to call the child. A New Room While going down the hall in my house I discover a new room that I had never seen there before. I look around to tell someone but there isn?t anyone around so I go in. It?s like a pharaoh?s tomb, but with lots of childhood toys. I?m thrilled with the find and completely confounded that I hadn?t seen the room before. Lost in the Alleyways I leave classroom and head home, but can?t recall how to get there. I become more and more lost, wandering around in an old alley system. Just when I think I?m close to home, the way is blocked. When we give these dreams a forth house reading, the images we foreground are enclosures which surround and protect. Notice the circles of enclosures in the Garden dream, where the child is surrounded by layers of circles, home, parents, grandparents(old woman-watcher) garden, lawn, and even her own fantasy system. Also, the Fourth House is seen as bearing on the attitudes and abilities of the parents to fulfill their commitments, which is seen in the call of the parents from the house. In the New Room, the dreamer finds an unknown (unconscious) enclosure that hints at being a tomb, but also a womb. Perhaps the dreamer has tapped into problems or areas of childhood that were repressed and never developed. The fourth House deals not only with the home, but the beginning and end of life as well. There may be some larger reconciliation's in store for this dreamer. In Lost, the dreamer is in search of a home and this indicates a disruption with the person's sense of inner being in the Fourth House. All searching for childhood, origin, family and roots may be seen as 4th House issues. Issues in the fourth house, like the personal unconscious, generally have to be discovered and brought up to the surface before they can be dealt with constructively. More existentially, anxieties, fears and insecurities may be seen as being uncomfortable in the home of oneself. Unknown houses and rooms, secret rivers and caves, lost homes and apartments all are opportunities to explore lost areas of the psyche. The Jungian M. L. von Franz used to say that the way Jung taught us to distinguish between issue of the personal and collective unconscious was by having people ask themselves ?is this something I lost and am now finding, (personal unconscious) or is this leading me to something that I never knew and is completely alien to me (collective unconscious)? There is always a little of both in every exploration of the unknown, but the question can help us here to generally distinguish between the subterranean river that the Fourth House is about and the vaster underground sea that is more about issue beyond the personal home, and before and after the beginning and end of the personal life. However, the personal aspect doesn?t necessary mean it is easier to approach. Many collective issues have been worked out by the group (society, culture) and have entered into the shared language systems. Personal issue may appear alien to us as well, never having been given a voice. There is a great deal of debate in astrology about whether the 4th House is about the Mother or the Father. Usually the arguments are about who provides the early atmosphere of security and safety. I think we can be more sophisticated now and say that earlier levels of the forth house are likely to spin around the early caretakers, while later levels will have more to do with other backbones in family system. This would traditionally locate the mother as primary and father as later secondary, for example. And so, there may be issues in 4th house dreaming of intimacy. Early disruptions in security are not irreparable, but do have a lasting effect on many people. Fouth house dream issues may be seen in polarities, either a deep attachment to the family and home, or an aversion. One might see obsessions about family, or compulsions to collect large tracks of land. However, I?m not trying to develop an astro-pathology here and send us all on a hunt for neurotic images in our dreams. Rather I just want to point to some of the less obvious areas that can arise in dreams that wouldn?t perhaps be seen as 4th House issue. The possible range of response to 4th House dreams takes in a project larger than psychology. Delightful, warm and wandering in the Garden of Eden dreams are a pleasure in themselves and can be enjoyed as such. If you feel particulary Protestant or Evolutionary, you might consider tracking what your dream maker produces in the realm of home-y pleasures so you can expand and more easily return to these images. The possibilities for Forth House Lucid dreaming are endless and rewarding. And as mutual dreaming becomes more popular, we can have better places to meet in dreamland. Jung once viewed the house in his dream as a picture of the psyche overall. There were earlier levels, social levels, and deep in the cellar, collective unconscious levels. We can use these dream houses as maps to (metaphorically) decide where we want to live, where we want to play, where we want to work, celebrate, make love, create and socialize. For those who do feel the need to work on issue of security and trust, these images offer the opportunity to develop an inner sense of security and self acceptance that can not be shaken by small movements in the outer world. The project of our parent?s commitment to us that may still be left undone can be picked up and completed within the investigation of dreams within the 4th House. Finally, a note about feelings and dreams and the 4th House. The feelings we talk about in the 4th House are generally the ones that *occur* to us rather that the ones we later *develop*. And yet in dreams, this distinction may not always be clear. Freud identified a level of dreaming where the feelings can be for something altogether other than the initial stimulus (displacement), and also may find themselves modified in other ways, being more or less intense than intended, combined with other feelings and absent altogether. Jung re-visioned this to show how each of these novel occurances can lead us to a higher functioning self. However we view these dream feelings, there are there for us and create an immediate sense of relevancy. When we cooperate with them consciously without fear or being possessed by them, we report our lives being more connected and rich. Emotions last over time and in doing so offer us the opportunity to be in time/space in an embodied way that in many ways is larger than we are. In this sense they are the atmosphere of our home. When recording a dream, to record it?s overall mood as well. This can be the thread that will lead you through the twisty maze of the 4th House. If you have 4th House Dreams, send them in to M. Aionia and -next year we will include them when the Wheel turns ?round again! Next Month: The Pets, Pleasures and Project of Dreaming in the Fifth House! The study, which will be published in the Journal of the Society for Psychical Research, was coauthored by Stanley Krippner, Ph. D., Alan Vaughan, Ph. D., and physicist James Spottiswoode. Titled "Geomagnetic Factors in Subjective Precognitive Dream Experiences," the report analyzed the times of 61 precognitive dreams by Vaughan recorded between 1968 and 1977. There was statistically significant lower geomagnetic activity at the times of the dreams (p = .027, odds of 37:1) when compared with 61 randomly selected nights than expected by chance. This is the first study that shows a significant link between precognition and low geomagnetic activity. Over 20 other studies have shown that same-time extrasensory perception (ESP) is correlated with low geomagnetic activity. The report gives three examples of Vaughan's precognitive dreams that occurred during times of very low geomagnetic activity: -- Vaughan's dream premonition of 25 May 1968 about the assassination of Robert Kennedy was reported in a letter to Krippner, who received it on 4 June--two days before the assassination. -- A dream reported by Vaughan during an experiment at Maimonides Dream Lab in March 1969 gave six specific details of a research project 16 years later (March 1985) in which Vaughan participated in an archaeological and psychic search for the lost ships of Columbus in Jamaica. -- A dream that Vaughan titled "The Haunted Hotel" was recorded on 30 September 1973 and depicted his being interviewed for a TV show at the bar of a haunted hotel. Nearly 17 years later, on 15 February 1990, Vaughan was interviewed for a national TV show ("After Hours") at the bar of the Queen Mary--then advertised as "The Haunted Hotel." You should do the session after you wake up, two hours earlier than your usual wake-up time or right before an afternoon nap. Immediately after the session has ended you go to sleep (again). Since it is very probable your mind is still occupied with reality checking, you will find yourself dreaming about them. None of the six exercises work right in a dream environment so their failure will trigger your lucidity. Charles Berner was the founder of his own 'religion' called "Abilitism". Before that he was a highranking Scientology man. She moved away to NJ and we lost contact for over a year. One night I had a very real dream of her, I mean it was very real, we were talking and just having a great time. I was awaken out of the dream by the phone ringing. I answered the phone and guess who it was...It was this girl I was just dreaming about. She said she had lost my phone number and did not remember it. She said that my phone number came to her in a dream she just had and had to call. I was stunned, she describe her dream and it was identical to mine. I think I broke out into a cold sweat. To this day I haven't been able to figure this one out but I swear its true. Was this a shared dream or ESP? Up until tonight when I found this web page I never even heard of a shared dream. I have had only two other weird dreams, both fortold of loses by two of my favorite football teams ( one college, one pro)in a championship and Superbowl game. I was sitting on a bench. The area was airier, less buildings, more greenery (yep-color), than what actually exists at the intersection. It was mid to late Spring, early evening getting close to sunset. There was a police officer standing at the corner and he noticed that I had been sitting there for a while, came over and told me to move along. His manner was not forceful, just professional. I explained to him that I had just eaten at the restaurant nearby and that I wanted to wait a bit before heading home. I told him that I had walked over there, and that it takes 35 minutes to get from home to this location (in real time walking, it would probably have taken at least an hour). He looked at me incredulously, and said, "In those? You walked over in those?", looking at my feet. I was wearing my blue beach slip-ons. He said he couldn't believe I walked! ! over in those shoes. I assured him that they were quite comfortable, that I was even comfortable walking in bare feet. He laughed. He seemed friendlier at this point. He continued on about how hard it must have been walking here without proper shoes. I told him I had proper runners, I just opted not to wear them. I saw these shoes in my mind, although they were white, black and grey, not the white of my normal (and real life) running shoes, and I recognized that they were different from the normal shoes before I woke up. Comments by Dreamer I'm pretty sure I understand the meaning of the crossroads - point of decision and chosing the path to take. I'm more curious about the running shoes. Regardless of which pair of shoes was correct, why wasn't I wearing either pair? Other times, I dream a mirade of images that don't seem connected at all. I don't know what to make of this one: First, let me set the scene for the part of the dream I remember most. I'm standing in some kind of warehouse-like room, mostly dark but with light streaming in places...enough to be able to see. Along one wall is some large machinery of sorts, old, with coils and gears, handles, and grease residue. It seems non-functional or just off. To one side there is a set of open double doors leading outside into an alley or hallway. Most of the floor, except for a crude walkway surrounding its perimeter, is a "lake" or pool filled with dirty water. Jutting out from the walkway (in front of the doors) is a piece of floor that is out over the water like a pier. On top of this is a wrought iron park bench. Now enter the people. I see a brunette girl, who I don't know in real life, but I recognize as a friend in the dream. She is with her boyfriend, who is a scruffy, intimidating figure. One could say he could be the head of the hoods from any high school in terms of looks, but older. The two are on the opposite side of the room that I am, and I can see they are having a "disagreement". He begins pushing her around, and she keeps shoving him away. He grabs her arm, she pulls away, back and forth, all the while moving toward the doors/pier area. I am concerned for my friend and move in to break it up. I want to tell him to lay off and leave her alone (and to pick on somebody his own size). This is a bold thing for me to do, since I'm way smaller than this guy. He stops suddenly, looks at me (as if he has read my thoughts), and swaggers toward me. I want to stand my ground, but I find myself turning my back to him and try to walk away. I'm suddenly afraid of him. Unfortunately, what I fear comes true, as he grabs me by the arm, whirls me around and tells me I'm "in for it now". I try to escape by diving into the pool of water (yuck), but he dives in after me. he chases me around a little bit, but catches me easily, pulls me out of the water, and drags me kicking and screaming to the park bench. The next thing I know, he has pinned me down on the bench, is hovering over top of me, and whisks off both our clothes in seconds flat. I am stricken with fear and loathing as he forces himself on me repeatedly, and I protest all the way, saying "NO!" and pleading with him to stop. But he doesn't. I can actually feel it each time he violates me, and he grins with grim satisfaction with the completion of each act. In all, this went on about 5 times. The girlfriend was around somewhere, unseen, and unwilling to interupt or help me. I felt like she was avoiding him due to her own similar experiences with him, and fear kept her paralized. Finally, he felt he was done with me. I was so exhausted and humiliated...and filled with rage. Then comes the weird part. I'm completely shaken while I try to pull myself together and pull on my clothes, when he slinks back up to me, grinning from ear to ear. I stare at him with disdain while he proceeds to tell me that of the 5 times we did it, he impregnated me 4 times...which meant I was carring 4 babies (this is where reality tacks a backseat to dreamland). Alarmed and devestated, I get up to leave. He starts to laugh and then cracks me across the back with a rod or a cane (where did it come from?). He tells me I'll never get away, but I make a break for the doors. I hear him let out an evil-sounding giggle as I run throught the doors into what turns out to be an alley. There is a car with a familiar-looking middle-aged woman in a navy blue suit driving. She has a kind face, fair skin and light auburn hair. I recognize her only as a teacher I once knew and beckons me to g! ! et into the car. I do and she reveals that my rapist is a former student of hers. We drive for a bit, then the scene changes. I am running along a street, dripping wet, trying to find a hiding place. I pass an oriental woman standing front of a doorway to a shack. She's dressed in very bright colors of turquoise and green, and has a wooden ruler in her hand. Her arms are crossed. I think this very odd, and then, for whatever reason, I realize she is associated to my rapist and I am afraid of her...I don't want to be recognized. She spots me immediately and casually says, "you better come in now, it's time for your Chinese torture." (So WEIRD!) My heart seems to skip a beat with fear as I run like hell to get away from her. She just smiles and watches me scamper away. The scene changes again. Suddenly I find myself inside a cramped stone cave, with tight walls made up of jutting, but smoothly rounded, gray stones. I feel like I'm in a cravass of sorts, with no bottom in sight and barely enough room to move. Escape from the rapist is still on my mind as I think this may be a good place to hide if I'm very quiet an don't move. Oddly, there is a handsome man, 20's, there in front of me...sort of leading the way through the cave. He is somehow on the run, too...oddly enough from the same person, but for a different reason. He assures me he will try to help me if we stay together. He leads me to an opening that leads outside into a sunlit yard of grass, bordered by a concrete sidewalk, followed by a paved road, and a suburb. Strange. We crawl out of the cave and rest on the grass. For some reason, his jeans are laying across a ring of smoking coals...as if to dry (remnants of the water?). I tell him, "I think your pants are dry, they are starting to smoke". (Again, drea! ! mland vs. reality here.) He says thanks, grabs the jeans. I tell him, "you better put out your fire, they might find us." He says he didn't light the fire. I start to hear faint voices and footsteps. I gasp and tell the man, "they know we're here!". But, before we can get up to run, the rapist, dressed in some kind of militant garb, and accompanied by a shifty-looking posse(containing men and women), appears from around the bend. We are caught. The rapist informs me, "I told you you wouldn't get away", and nods to a couple of his cronies to seize me and my cave companion. I imagine the worst. I sense that we are about to be beaten or tortured in some way. I'm absolutely riddled with fear and anticipation of what might come next. Then, while one guy holds me down, a blond woman pours a clear liquid from a medicine bottle onto a soup spoon, and proceeds to force it into my mouth. I want to spit it out, but find that I can't...and against my will find myself swallowing it. My mouth and tongue begin to numb, and I feel dizzy. I feel like I need to lay down. Then, suddenly, the woman grabs my leg, rolls me onto my side, and stabbs my posterior with a hypodermic needle. I scream in pain, then fade into unconsciousness...then I wake up. What is even weirder, is that once I'm awake (and memories of the dream linger), I feel rested and unstartled. I'm surprised that I haven't awakened in a sweat or with a pounding heartbeat. Surely there is a more complete ending to this dream...but there isn't. It's gone. I am back in the physical world. Now what? Up until now, you have got through life with a cultivated vulnerability (inappropriately protected feet), and at some level you are just beginning to realise this. Although you don't know what it is, you find yourself being 'pursued' by it. Is there an issue in the dreamer's life, I wonder, which follows her wherever she goes. It is likely that the origins are rooted in the childhood. It is also likely that the causes are about to become exposed to the 'light of consciousness'. The 'wise old woman' (via meditation, perhaps) within the dreamer may be helpful in dealing with whatever emotions arise. --------------- DREAM dream-flow.v001.n255.5 --------------- From: Subject: kiss >Date: Sun, 27 Feb 2000 20:20:55 Sometimes (perhaps more often than we realise) dreams are simply symbolic renditions of actual psychic activity. However, the three folders do look important and probably represent either three decision paths or three potentials for personal development. My advice would be to try and find the presence of mind and take a peek at the folder contents. Perhaps the fact that the dreamer becomes distracted by the numerological significance of the dream is actually representative of an unconscious resistance to really consider these three options. --------------- DREAM dream-flow.v001.n255.6 --------------- From: To: dream-flow@lists.best.com Date: Thursday, March 02, 2000 11:24 Subject: Digest dream-flow.v001.n254 > >Dream Title High School (Echo) I would suggest that the dreamer never really got over crush with the guy at school, and that almost certainly psychic involvement continues to this day. RCW DATE : 3 mar 2000 10:15 DREAM : the new place =( last evening i was mostly relaxing. the last few days required very long class sessions in my courses, but yesterday was only three hours of open lab work in web design which is much easier than lecture. there is a respite in my schedule for the next three days. i digitized a couple LPs of leo kottke guitar music during the evening, and set the CDs to burn overnight. unfortunately, the CD burn did not go smoothly, about every other copy terminating in write errors before i got three disks complete. whenever i woke up in the night to take a pee or whatever, i would go out to the den to check the CD burner and start a new copy before going back to sleep. i got the third good copy done just about sunrise. i woke again about 09:00 without any alarm set, then went back to sleep. )= she is back. after a long time susan has returned. i believe that she went off to a conference of speech pathologists and has now come back to little house where we lived. there is nothing for me to do but wait. i am sitting in the kitchen at the dining table, just staring at my empty hands. this estrangement between us has gone on for a long time now. my chest has the usual weighted feeling like my heart is struggling to keep beating. this happens whenever she is around, cold and distant in feeling yet still interested enough to stay with me. i keep expecting to hear the worst but hoping for a return to the best. approach avoidance i think it is called. strange how human sentiment works. i look at my watch. 14:30. susan is in the bedroom dressing. she has agreed to go to a movie with me. star wars, the second episode, love story between aniken skywalker and queen padme. the film came out some weeks ago but i held off seeing it until she could return. may be the last thing we ever do together from the way things seem to be going. the next showing does not start until 16:00. i get up and pace the floor a bit. nothing else to do. i go over to the sink and wash a few dishes that were waiting there. the warm water and soap feel good on my hands. at least it gives me something to do that seems productive and useful, and besides, making things clean seems to be the right karma here. finally i hear her come out into the living room from the hall. i turn and my breath catches at the sight of her. susan is wearing a full length dress, peach colored and made of a thin knit fabric. it is open on the shoulders and neck with a broad brimmed hat to match. she looks like something out of a fashion photograph. "ready to go?" she asks. i can barely swallow and find words to reply. "oh wait," she says seeing the dishes i washed. "i meant to show you this." she goes over and picks up a new plate she brought back with her. going over to a wall in the living room where she has a collection of ornamental dishware displayed on wire racks, she holds the new plate up in front of a dark platter. i had not really noticed that new plate when i washed it. white porcelain with a deep purple center that has tiny stars and wisps of clouds-- it is quite pretty and picks up the color of the platter behind it perfectly. i wonder if i can construct a brass wire rack for it that will stand out from the platter just the way she is holding it now. for a moment it feels like we are actually planning something together again. i quickly pull out a sports jacket and grab a tie so i am not so underdressed next to her and we leave. we are together but the silences are still cold between us. my old triumph spitfire seems a little shabby compared to her as she gets in, but with the top down and the air flowing as i start to drive, it feels better when we are moving. since there is a long time before the movie starts i pull over to new street along the shoreline. susan looks over at me in curiousity but says nothing. this area has just been built while she was gone. "there is house here i want to look at." i am thinking that perhaps we need a new start, somewhere without the unfortunate associations of the past. i pull the car over and we get. the house is actually a series residences constructed together in a block. wood frame looking out onto the beach with the open sea stretching out to the flat horizon. breath taking view as we step up onto the wooden deck that surrounds the structure. the one on the end is the one i am interested in. the front door is locked, and as we step around to the back the sliding glass doors are similarly secured. the real estate agent had told me it would be open. down under the deck i find that a lower entry is open, leading to stairs that go down to the lower level. susan goes in first, her dress swaying like a flame in the darkness of the room. i am aroused by a surge of passion for her, but keep my peace by finding the light switch. the room we are in is probably a recreation room in a windowless basement. wood paneling and wall to wall carpet. we go up the stairs into the interior of the place. the architecture is split level design, a central atrium tall enough for a tree, leads up to a sky light. altogether there are four levels in a distance of two and a half stories around this cathedral cavity. the feeling inside is one of expansive space with few if any interior walls. "this is nice." she says her heels echoing on the hardwood floor of the empty rooms. i walk out toward the kitchen which is separated from the main living area by a series of counters and drop shelves. i sense a feeling of being washed by light from the sliding glass doors across from a small dining area on the opposite side. the view of the gray sea and blue sky stretching forever is unstopped by anything. for the first time in a long time my breath begins to work without effort. there is hope here. susan comes up behind me and touches my back, not saying anything but there is a tentative contact. i feel released from agony and can not express the relief. =( i wake at 10:00 keeping this last good feeling for a few moments before it starts to fade with the concerns of the day. i do not have to teach today for the first time in several weeks, but there is a final exam to format for my internet course, the irrigation pipe to the garden to replace, and i want to work on the dashboard of my car. but still i linger for a while to savor the lightness of being in that new place. )= . stankuli@gulf.net === qui non est hodie cras minus aptus erit | | who not is today, tomorrow less suitable will be --- -- Ovid _Remedia Amoris_ i 94 --------------- DREAM dream-flow.v001.n255.9 --------------- From: Anonymous Subject: moving out Date: Fri, 03 Mar 2000 20:05:21 -0800 Note: Stan requests his name and e be kept with the dream. DATE : 29 feb 2000 07:09 DREAM : moving out =( last night i went to bed early, about midnight and tried to get to sleep around 01:30 after looking through an art magazine for sometime. i did not get to sleep very easily, tossing about until at least 03:30 then waking several more times during the night. i am teaching navy students everyday this week and next some my schedule is rather full and i could use some extra time in the morning for preparations. still, i can not get much sleep by trying too early. i almost give up and start some computer work until i get tired, but manage eventually to sleep instead. )= on the back of the station wagon which my mother and father are loading with various boxes filled with my belongings, there is a trailer hitch. i have to attach the orange trailer that i have rented. it does not seem to be a very substantial thing, the metal rails and beams a gauge much thinner than i would have expected. but it is light and i can roll it by hand into place behind the car. once i have locked the hitch to the ball mechanism and chained it, i see that my dog, agamemnon has already jumped into the trailer and is ready to ride. i do not think i intend him to ride from massachusetts all the way to texas in the trailer exposed to the wind, but if he is eager to go and wants to ride back there for a while, i suppose it is alright. we will be on the road several days at least. now my father starts up the engine and moves the station wagon a few feet. upon braking, agamemnon loses his balance and rolls out of the trailer onto the ground. thankfully the movement of the car was slow and his fall was not very far, but i can see that i will need to put something in the space between the edge of the bed siding and the thin chrome rods which form the containment walls for the load. but in the meantime, agamemnon is not getting up. i see that he has slid into a large drainage hole in the curb. i go over and take a hold of his collar to help pull him out. but he is too heavy and too far into the hole. he falls completely into the drain, but not too far. he is able to get his footing inside to stand up. it is somewhat amusing to see his head just sticking up the ground with a puzzled look on his face. with some encouragement from me, he scrabbles out. now over by the wall of the house i find some scrapes of wood and masonite with an electric drill nearby. it will take two pieces to fit the back of the trailer where the dog rolled out. i quickly drill a hole in each corner of the two pieces that are about the right size and i find a long piece of twine to tie them with. back at the trailer i start securing the first wood rectangle to the rails. while i am doing this several people start piling boxes and things in the trailer or beside it. i hear scott conti's voice from over somewhere. "no, i am not really here." he says to someone. i lookup and wave as he walks by. "i did not know you had a wayback machine." he says, pointing to an old vacuum cleaner that looks like a rocket jetpack. he walks on, obviously in a hurry to get somewhere. now that i have the wooden panels in place on the trailer, i load the last few things into it. my father comes up and says that everything is packed now and we should go. long drive ahead of us. i say that i should check everything one last time to see if something was missed. i am pretty sure there must be, but he says that he has already locked the door. let's go. but i am reluctant. i know that mom and dad do believe in cleaning up when moving like i do. since i have lived in this apartment on the third floor for so many years, i want it to look good and clean as i go. mop the floors and scrub the counter tops. they think this is waste of time since the next people moving in will just dirty it with their boxes and things. i do not care about what the next people do, i want to see that everything is right when i go. "we got everything packed." he says to me. "we should go now." "how did you know what things in the attic were mine and what was not? i am sure you may have missed some things. did you even know about the attic room." dad says nothing but i can see that he does not want to wait around to check. i think about all the equipment i use for magic practices and rituals that are invested in that room. it has always been the most difficult effort to prepare divinatory devices for transport and most people do not understand nor have the patience to do it properly. usually many of the devices are contaminated by vulgar contact and have to be destroyed. now i see the landlady come out from her place on the bottom floor, going over into the backyard. "i have to check things out with the landlady before we go." i tell my father. he will wait in the car. i catch up with the landlady in the back yard. "are you ready to go?" she asks. "just about. i think we should inspect the apartment one final time to make sure you are satisfied with the condition." this is needed for the security deposit, but i want to see what was left behind anyway. she is a pretty woman with dark eyes and hair, a little older but still somewhat attractive. in the years i have lived here, i have not really gotten a chance to know her very well other than to leave the rent money in her mailbox or when some plumbing or maintenance problem needed attention. usually i took care of the repairs myself, but needed to tell her of them. "you have been a good tenant." she tells me as we go around towards the back steps, a long series of wooden flights upwards. "yes, i will miss this place. right up there, i finished my dissertation." i point up to a set of windows just above us now as we come up the stairs. "it took longer than i expected, but it was worth the effort to me in the end." she unlocks the back door which leads into the kitchen. this the now famous apartment that sheila and i never lived in. sheila is gone now, but a number of her things remain behind for someone else to remove or discard. the first thing i notice is that mom and dad did not clean the place as i wanted. there is dirt and newspapers scattered about. i am disappointed and want to really scrub it up, but it looks like that would take a few hours from the condition. the landlady does not seem to mind, she is inspecting that the functional things still work. the whole place is usually painted between tenants anyway. she takes me through the dining room and then the sitting room. a small door in the wall opens to an attic storage area. there are things stored there from other apartments and things abandoned by former residents. oh, i see a large fish tank that had been mine. and there is a box of my gardening tools. "so where are you moving to when you leave here?" she asks turning toward me. "um, san antonio texas" i reply after thinking about it. actually the college that wants me to come is in a place called flintlock, texas, but no one has ever heard of it, so i tell the nearest big city instead. "in working for colleges we don't really leave one place so much as are asked to come somewhere else." she does not say anything, but from the way she is staring at me there is an invitation in her eyes for an intimate farewell. suddenly she is looking more like gina lollabridgetta, dark italian beauty just simmering below a mist of sweat. i am attracted, i can not deny that. but before i can decide if there is enough time even for a quick interlude, i hear my parents come into the empty apartment looking for me. i see rows of glassware mounted on shelves and racks along the top of the wall. there are sets of painted glasses that sheila had bought on this trip or that then abandoned. there is a rack of large volumetric funnels from some chemistry experiments i did once. they detach from the wall and come crashing down to the floor. there are some globular flasks of mine, they also come away from the wall and fall to their destruction. =( i awake at 06:44 well rested and ready for an early start on the day. this dream seems like a parting with this apartment that sheila and i never lived in, but has been the scene for many dreams and remembered good times. somehow it is associated with my feeling of loss and disappointment with her absence, but i always seem to manage quite well enough on my own somehow. she is never there but there are signs of her and other people we knew. this apartment is so familiar even though it never existed in waking space. i wonder if this is really the last time it will feature in my dreams and i will move on to somewhere else. i have no awareness of any real place called 'flintlock, texas'. a wayback machine i think was time travel device that rocky and bullwinkle used. i never had one. i usually do have the problem of moving magical devices, but i have learned to pack them carefully first, keep them well away from the rest of the transportable items, and load them last myself. )= . stankuli@gulf.net === qui non est hodie cras minus aptus erit | | who not is today, tomorrow less suitable will be --- -- Ovid _Remedia Amoris_ i 94 --------------- DREAM dream-flow.v001.n255.10 --------------- From: Anonymous Subject: Teeth Falling out Date: Fri, 03 Mar 2000 20:20:00 -0800 Dream Title Teeth Falling out Date of Dream March 2, 11:30pm-12:45am I had a dream where I drank something somewhere and I started throwing up. The dream is forcing you to admit that you in fact profoundly regret not having done these things, and that it is too late to do anything about it. I am driving in the minivan, going about gathering necessities for the party. The dream starts out with my friend and I, who killed himself a couple years before the dream started, going to a cocktail party in a man's home...a mansion. i am dressed in a flowing black velvet gown, my friend in a black tux. The Host is a good looking man, in his 30's, wearing all black...I want to say Armani...he's is rich and debonair. His home is very large, 30 rooms, with attic and large rolling yard, an estate. I meet the Host, who is a friend of my friend, then excuse myself. As i walk toward the bathroom, I see a little dog...but the dog is ghostly...transparent. I follow the dog up the stairs and into a room. He leads me to a small door. The dog goes through the door. The door is locked. Then the dream changes...we are having dinner now, there are five guests total and the Host. It seems that only I can see the dog, and no one seems to know anything about the dog. I am becoming upset in the dream, crying. My friend takes me to the room to show me that the door is nothing more than a fake door...but now it is unlocked as we climb up the small narrow staircase to the attic. The dog is there. We go into the attic and we see a boy. I start to cry even harder in the dream...the boy is gaunt, sickly, his eyes are big and black...as if he had no eyes, just black holes. His skin is white. he is about ten years old. I have to be carried out of the attic and out of the house. I always try to go back, but so far, in the five years of having this dream, I cannot get back inside the attic via the little door. Can anyone help? i can remember the house is white, three stories...the room to access the attic is red...luxurious...four post bed with red curtains and canopy...the dining room had those long formal dining tables, none of the other guests had clear faces, and i remember that their conversations amongst each other were not clear...only bits and pieces, certain words i could understand...no servants, but it seems that there were...i just do not remember seeing any... "not that i know about." she answers me. "you can eventually get it to clear and give you a dial tone if you put the cradle on speaker phone and do this." she clicks the base to conference call, and holds the microphone pickup over the speaker. a loud feedback squeal comes through. "eventually they hear this on the other end and hang up." seems a bit much to go through, i think. after i try the feedback and attempt to dial my mother several times, i give up. the cellular thing is just not going to work. rosie comes over with a sizzling skillet. "try this." she tells me. "this is what i have learned to make with my emails." in the black iron skillet are maybe a dozen email packets, printed, folded in ravioli sized squares and sauteed in a meat and cheese marinara sauce. with a fork she has handed me, i eat a couple of the packets. the sauce is good, like a lasagna but the email ravioli still have the taste and consistency of paper. not a very good attempt, perhaps they needed to be cooked longer until soft. i understand that rosie is trying to recycle her email, but does not seem to grasp that she does not need to print it out at all. the email is still on the hard disk taking up space no matter what we do to the hardcopy. "that one is special." she says pointing to an email ravioli standing up on the side of the skillet. i spear it with my fork and eat it. hm, this one is a little better with a stronger flavor of oregano and a consistency more like pasta and less like paper. the ink gives it a strange aftertaste though. rosie's husband, mick, says "come on mommy. let's go out to grab a bite to eat." after a short drive through a part of columbus, ohio, that i am unfamiliar with, we come to pizza restaurant on the edge of a lake. it is just about sundown, the sky colored with reds and purples. inside it is a little too warm in the way that pizza parlors are with their big ovens going all the time. mick orders and we sit to wait. he picks up a ketchup container and tentatively squirts a splot of ketchup toward me. he and my father used to enjoy little food fights like this. i take up a yellow mustard container and splurt a good sized glob toward him. after a little while of give and take, me hitting him more than he hitting me, i put up my hands for a cease fire. i decide i will go outside for some fresh air while waiting. it is now dark and the quiet slapping of the water gives a peaceful atmosphere to the lake shore. i do not get too far when i find the body of a black man laying near the water. at first i wonder if he is asleep, but then i see that he has been dismembered, his face laying on its side near the remainder of the body. quickly i backtrack away from this scene. on my way back into the restaurant i think about calling the police to report an apparent crime. but i see two men pass me, heading toward the body carrying large duffel bags. i try to be inconspicuous, but they seem to notice me anyway. apparently a mob cleanup crew called in after the enforcers have done their work. back inside i go up to tell mick and rosie that we ought to get out of here, but the pizza has just gotten there and they are settled in. well, maybe the problem outside will just blow over without concerning us. still, i think we ought to ask for a take out box. before i can suggest it, two young women come in, instantly taking command of the place by waving small automatic weapons, probably uzi. the women, hardlsy more than girls maybe 18 years old, are dressed in odd clothes that somehow manage to make a fashion statement by mismatching. one of them has hair dyed a hot neon pink, while the other has blue streaks with a frizzy perm. "you all be good and no one needs to get hurt." i try to be small and unnoticed by going over to railing to blend in with some other people gathered there. on the other side of the railing is a drop to a second lower level of the restaurant. if i can get down there i will be further separated from the scene. i swing over the side and let myself down. the girl with the pink hair has seen me, and follows me over the rail. but she is not lucky on landing and falls down, dropping her gun. i could go for the gun, but decide it is not worth it. i feel rather sorry for her clumsiness which seems out of character. so i push the gun back over to her and try to help her get up and recover her composure which had been so solid and competent before the spill. once she has her weapon back, she points it at me. "you are coming with us." i can not tell if this is because they were sent inside to get me for seeing the crime scene with the body, or if she is just trying to save face after i was kind to her. either way, she has decided that i am taken hostage. in the parking lot, she transfers control of me to the blue haired one. "you put him in the car, gidge." i assume that 'gidge' is short for gidgette. she sticks a gun barrel in my ribs. "come with me, and do not attract any attention to us." as we walk, she takes my arm to put around her, like we are a couple just walking to our car, the gun still jammed in my side. i get the idea and sort of like it, so i squeeze her side. she has a lean firm feel that i like even more. "hey." she yells. "not so hard. you men are all alike. don't know how to treat a woman." i do not know what she means, but i lighten up on the feel. "always trying to take what is not given." she mutters, but i can tell that she did not mind as much as she is protesting. when we arrive at the car in the dark, it is a large pink hearse. cool, what a nice machine. gidge opens a side door in back for me to get, but i find it a little too small for me to get in. i go around back and open the large door where the coffin was to slide and get in that way. the interior of the hearse has been remodeled in red shag carpet and frosted pink mohair lining. there are barbi dolls and barbi accessories everywhere. "oh, wow. a barbimobile." i say in admiration as gidge gets into the driver seat and starts the engine. she drives over to the pink haired one who has been waiting at the entrance of the restaurant, keeping everyone inside at bay. "time to go, billie" gidge yells to her partner. "this one been good?" billie asks as she gets in, waving her gun in my direction. "well, sort of." gidge answers with a slightly wicked grin. "not too good." we begin driving through the streets with no apparent sense of destination. i fiddle with one of the barbi dolls hanging on an string near one of the engraved side windows. a malibu barbi, one of the classics. billie notices. "hey, what are doing with the doll?" "nothing. i always liked barbi as a doll." "why is that?" "well, she is one of the few, maybe only, cross generation toys we have. your mother played with dolls just like this. when i was a boy my first toy was a set of cowboy pistols with a holster belt. hopalong cassidy cap guns. the boys today play with ray guns or commando weapons. nothing like the ones i had. only barbi has remained almost unchanged since 1963." billie smirks. "yea, well she has that unrealistic body shape." "you missed the point there. does donald duck look like a duck? mickey mouse is not a very good body shape for a mouse. what about elmer fudd as a human? no one complains that they are setting unrealistic body images. the usual direction of distortion in child art is called 'infantilization'. big heads, short necks, short pudgy arms and legs, eyes too big. the proportions are made more like an infant to suggest child like play. barbi was the first to stretch the proportions in the other way. the 'hyperadult' model to emphasize how grown up barbi is. head too small, neck legs and arms too long, big firm hooters to hang the clothing on. by having a shape that continues the growth pattern beyond adult, it suggests that the play is along grown up themes. so buying clothes and matching accessories, hanging around with the emasculated ken-- child art intensifies reality to play with, not just copies how it is. dolls with real woman proportions stunt the imagination." gidge smiles. "i knew there was more to barbi than they told us." i do not mention that my favorite is gymnast barbi. she has jointed knees which can bend so to better accommodate ken in dickless sex. priapal imagery has almost disappeared from human culture and certainly from child play, favoring a romantic love that ends with a kiss. billie seems less impressed, pulling at her hair like cotton candy. "yeah? well, quit playing with the dolls." she indicates a turn off leading down to the river. the river is deep, channeled into canals, water dark gray and running fast near to flood stage. still, i have seen many rivers recently that were much worse than this. gidge parks the barbimobile and we all get out. several tugs without barges are on the river, scooting downstream with the rapid current. there is a third woman waiting here with a metal scoop on the dock next to the canal. the third woman indicates that i should get into the scoop and she pushes us off into the current. gidge and billie remain behind doing something to the hearse. the scoop is not really a boat, but manages to stay afloat for a while. eventually one of the eddies is too tall for the front edge and the scoop swamps and sinks. but the third woman had steered in toward a dock on the other side and we have to swim the last few yards into the quiet lee side. when we climb up on the dock, she says "we have made it to little africa." billie and gidge come along soon, also swimming the harsh current. apparently they do this all the time. gidge looks a little down about something, her wet blue hair stringing down as she won't hold up her head. i hear billie step behind me and say "ok, i will do it." i turn around and see that billie has her gun pointed at my back, ready to shoot me. "wait a minute." i say. "what was the point it abducting me if you are just going to kill me anyway? it makes no sense." billie shrugs in agreement. "who says we have to make sense? girls just want to have clean fun. no mess. no leftovers." "shooting me makes a mess. i had hoped for better." "right." she smirks in reluctant agreement. she hands me the gun and a single bullet for a reload. "you will need this if you are going to get out of little africa." =( i wake at 06:45 without an alarm, but not sleepy. i lay awake for while before getting up to type this in. i really do not have much association with these contents. the welters are my mother's long time friends from ohio. i do not know these girls with the bright hair. )= . stankuli@gulf.net === true, i talk of dreams, | | the brain's idle children --- --mercutio --------------- DREAM dream-flow.v001.n263.2 --------------- From: Anonymous Subject: Nicole A child's affair Date: Wed, 15 Mar 2000 16:50:26 -0800 Dream Title Nicole A child's affair Date of Dream 8;ooa.m./ March 15th I dreamed that I was about 12 and that I was sneaking with another 12 your old male. I am in a play ground some kind of activity is happening by the swings. I notice an object falling from the sky. It is dark brown I reach up and grasp it. It is an eagle feather that is magnificently long and the base is shaped in a hollow triangle, thick enough to grasp easily in my fist. As I bring the feather down to eye level the triangle transforms into the head and shoulders of a bird. Cream coloured with peach coloured upper breast, it is alive it's eye lid opens and closes. I am not upset in fact I just am curious. The dark brown feather is attached to the back of the front half of the bird, and it lives even though more than half of it is missing. The ground was covered in snow and the stars shined brightly overhead. I walked outside, very distraught about something. I called out a question of "WHY?" and looking down into the snow, the answer to my question began to form. As if written by an unseen hand. The words were huge, spanning each letter 6" apart. I cant recall the answer to the first question. I began conversing with the words written in the snow. Asking question after question and getting answers written in the snow. I walked back into the house, learned that my grandmother had died(got a flash of seeing her in a long red dress and leaving to go jogging) and walked back out to the snow. I didnt say a word but "it" seemed to recognize I was upset. The words "WHO, WHERE, WHEN" were written out and I said that my grandmother had died. It answered to me why, that she wanted to go, that she wa! ! s ready. I asked who "it" was. It answers in a huge mural. Colors bleeding into the snow, spreading across and down. Hearts, roses, thorns painted in the snow everywhere. I seemed to grasp that it was saying it was "the mother of all center" and then I translated it to "Lilac". I went back into the house, and seemingly the next day there was a man at the window looking out at a bush laying across the snow. He said to me "the bush is talking to you" I walked out and went to the bush laying down and tried to talk to it but it wouldnt talk back. Then I woke up. In the dream, he had come to my home town to visit, and at the same time, there were people that were supossed to be my friends, but I did not know who they were, and had never seen them before. I am not sure what time of day it was in the dream, but I was having a sleep over, and he and my unknown friends were staying. Out if all if the unknown friends, there was only one girl. It was time to wash-up, and the guy that I have been romantically involved with, is in the bathtub with the unknown girl, and they are kissing. I am peeking through the door because it is somewhat cracked because the locked is messed up. Each time he starts to kiss her, I bang on the door, and tell them to hurry up. He gets mad, and wants to hit me, but doesn't. After they come out of the bathroom, they know that I know what just occurred, but we don't speak on it. For ! ! some reason, I do not say anything, because he and I do not go together, and there is no official relationship between us. He continues to make comments to me as if he is still in love with me. The funny thing about the unknow girl is that she kind of looks like me (and I am a guy), and her hair is cornrowed (braided) in the same style that I had gotten my hair done when I didn't like the way that it was styled. I then walked in to the other room, to wake up my unknown friends, and one of them is laying in my moms bed hiding under the covers. I try to wake him up, but he is kind of sluggish, and I was a little pissed that he was laying in my mom's bed. We all began to go down stairs, so that we could decide what activities we were going to do that day. I want to say something to the guy that I have been romantically involved with, but I can't. He continues to make sexual innuendos to me to let me know that he cares. So, I settle for that, and then me alarm clock rings, and I ! ! am waken from the dream. Comments by Dreamer The things that stuck out to me in the dream were: 1. Friends/People that I didn't know, but I think that they were from Baltimore, and I reside in Philadelphia, and the guy that I am involved with is from Richmond. 2. My romantic involvement kissing an unknown girl in the bath tub that resembled me, and I am a guy. 3. Took place at my house. 4. I was having a sleep over at my house, and I have never had a sleep over at my house before. 5. No true relationship with romantic interest. 6. Peeking through the cracked bathroom door, because the the lock is somewhat broken. That was the old bathroom door, and was replaced 2 years ago. The funny thing is that the guy that I have been involved with told me a few days ago that he didn't want to be gay anymore, and that he is in love with me, and wants to still be friends. I stopped calling him, and then he starts e-mailing me telling me that he still loves me, and misses me. He is still making sexual innuendos towards me, and I do not know what to do. I told her I didn't know how to change my form since I have never appeared! ! other than my human form before. Off she fly so I followed. We were high in the sky, daylight turned into darkness. From here we enter a snow storm. The storm increased in intensity as we fly on. I could feel the weight building upon my body till I felt I could no longer go on. Sent her a message to land. We ended up in a neighborhood of houses. The snow fall was intense. I landed in a street. while the little girl laned on top of a roof, then jump down to the street where I stood as a bird. She then murmered something, and then took off. She had drawned something in the snow, but I couldn't make it out. I was alittle mad that she abandoned me there. I then wished myself to wake up. I live in rural South Carolina on an island just outside of Charleston. I am happily married, and we have two sons, Andre, age 9, and my step-son, Logan, age 11. I frequently ask angels to come ot me in my dreams to provide me with guidance and wisdom. Recently I had a dream that I was at the foot of the drawbridge near my home. It was so dark that I couldn't see my hand in front of my face. I knew that my son Andre was on the other end of the bridge. The wind started blowing, and it appeared that a storm was coming up. I was fearful that I would not be able to get to Andre as the storm hit. Suddenly, an old black man appeared a few feet in front of me. He held a brightly lit lantern in his hand, and he was wearing a uniform of some sort. He had his arm around Andre's shoulder, and he smiled, saying, "Don't worry ma'am, this one will be just fine." Other black folks with lanterns were behind him, smiling reassuring! ! ly. I thanked the man, and we turned and walked away. When I awoke, I felt at peace and a strong sense of gratitude. Whenever I ask my angesl to come to me in my dreams, they are older black people, and I feel a strong spiritual connection to them. Date: Fri, 24 Mar 2000 08:24:22 -0800 Dream Title Rooms in a dwelling place. Date of Dream I have a recurrent dream about being in an apartment, or a house with many, many, rooms. Each room that I enter is unfamiliar and unlike any others I have been in. The dwelling place is not mine, that much I know. I keep going into different rooms as though looking for something, but can never find my way back to the original starting point. I am never afraid, just frustrated. More often than not, I have a family member in there with me, as though they live there. Most of the time it is my mother, and sister. However, sometimes it is just the sensation of not being alone, and "sensing" that a relative is somewhere in the dwelling. These dreams having been happening for the last few years, but now seem to happen at least once every week.
