Cyber-Dream Sharing History: Mail Lists
Using Mail Lists (Listserv, majordomo, ect) for Dream Sharing
DreamGate Cyberdream History
Mail lists on the Net serve the Dream Sharing community in many ways. Some lists are discussion groups about specific dreams while others are more general and cover such topics as lucid or pre-cognitive dreaming. Other times mail list have served the dream sharing community as staff and committee lists, such as the Electric Dreams Staff List and the Association for the Study of Dreams Conference Committee list.

Mail Lists include Listserv's, Majordomo's and other automated subscription and distribution services. For an article on using mail lists and Dream Sharing, see Richard Wilkerson's article in the Association for the Study of Dreams Newsletter column The Dream Cyberphile Spring, 1966

Electric-Dreams@lists.best.comThe original Electric Dreams monthly dream sharing e-zine, including Dreams, Comments, Articles, Global Dreaming News, Current events and much more. Although this mail list only distributes once a month, it still uses a majordomo mail list for distribution and subscription.
ED-CORE@lists.best.comThough this sounds exclusive, its really open to anyone. Subscribers distribute dreams and comments on dreams, and both are published on the Electric Dreams E-zine. Discussions of dream interpretation theory occasionally occur.
The Oneiro-Network  (now Cyberdreams@lists.best.com) maintains a mail list that focuses on lucid and other kinds of dreaming. This list is very active online and often plan meetings on Pow-wow, IRC and other real-time venues via this list. The List is sponsored by DreamGate but maintains a peer group or partner level community without hierarchy.
Dreams@intuition.org  The Noetic Institute is in process of updating its many new-age mail lists, including the list on dreams. Should be available by March 1997.
Historic Note: The first ASD conference committee to use online mail lists for planning and communication was the Conference XIII Committee, which planned the 1996 Association for the Study of Dreams conference in Berkeley, California with the aid of the DreamGate asd-13@igc.apc.org list. ASD now uses DreamGate's Bestserv mail lists for conference planning and executive board communications.

Dream Sharing Related DISTRIBUTION L I S T S

Distribution lists are like mail lists except they are usually smaller and most often just a list someone keeps of parties interested in a particular issue and needing group communications. This is usually accomplished via using the CC: field in an email, but can also use semi-automated lists such as the Nicknames by Eudora, or the Pegasus distribution lists.
